I never understood the "it won't be considered medicine" argument until now. I fully recognize the medical benefits of MJ and think it would be messed up for someone with a debilitating disease (Cancer, Parkinsons, MS) to have the price of their meds almost triple because of legalization.

Why there will probably always be a black market.

Personally I have no problems paying a lil extra if it means keeping "the man" off your back and having the selections to choose from ..argh 17 hour drive for me..

The problem now is that the black market (home growers) will now have to sell for much lower than normal to compete with the government backed grows. So essentially uncle sam just stole cannabis from the people..

I think you may not get the rec pricing..

If they are charging $70+tax per 8th at the store (say $90 after a 29% tax) the black market will continue to thrive. Dec. 31st (pre-legal) you could get that same 8th for $30 after tax with a script.

If anything this just raised the cost on the street as well = more money on the mercado negro.

From what I've heard, Medical Marijuana patients won't have to pay the entire tax that recreational users will be paying. I believe they're also allowed to possess a greater quantity than rec users. I guess time will tell how this all works out. The dominoes will now begin to fall!!!!

the reason is simple imvho.. greed, greed and more greed on the part of the growers who all voted their wallets and were afraid that they'd have to get a real paying job instead of relying on weed as an income..
of course, this is all imvho..

I see no problem with growers making a fair and honest living. What I do see a problem with is the extreme taxation of cannabis and price gouging at the legal retail level. We don't deserve to be bled dry while government and big business cashes in. I like you racer but I'm kind of offended you consider growing/selling cannabis not a real job. There are a lot of us that take pride in what we do. To me it's saying a giant fuck you to corporate America. I stand for what I feel right and believe in my heart to be right and risk everything I have to provide people with a natural healing plant for a reasonable price. I'm extremely intelligent and could probably land almost any job I would like with time and dedication however I do this for a purpose besides money and for the time, energy, effort and risk I put in I feel I deserve to make enough to get by. To me a "real job" is just another brick in the wall. Just my oppinion.

It amazes me that so many growers are opposed to legalization for the sole reason that they might have to lower their prices.. if you can't compete in the market, tough luck. That's how it works.

I'm not opposed to legalization but more or less big business attempting to take hold and exploit an industry that should be in the hands of the people.

Our product is ten times better than the government sponsored shit, but how do you convince the public? They can walk into a dispensary and buy it legally now. How do I convince them to buy from what they see as the dirty/ghetto street vendor? To know how high in quality my stuff is, they would first have to try it..

The only time I've ever really been in trouble for marijuana the repercussions where extremely light with the exception of the time I was charged with felony possession with intent of over a lb. I live in a non medical state and I have never been kept over night in jail on a mere possession charge. I'm sure it's different every where but this is just my experience with the law.

I've long fantasized about taking some choice buds, packaging them real nice, and tucking them somewhere out of the way in Whole Foods' specialty produce section. Price it around $27-35/gram, and then hang back and see what happens. If a WF employee finds it, see what they do. If a customer puts it in their cart, tell them who to pay. Would that be too cheap for Whole Foods?

I have never had this problem either! My fear is that I WILL NOW because most people don't know the difference. I have loyal customers on a small scale. But Uncle Sam has the funding to do huge things, ultimately stealing potential customers.

Do what you do with love, skill and enthusiasm and you will always sell out. Think of the farmers markets - big ag didn't wipe the small farmers out entirely.

its 500 an oz cause thats what people will pay lol. The demand and market are there. You just gotta wait till there is more competition in the market. Thats when the businesses will have a price battle and drop the market value. Supply is low demand is high which equals higher prices lol
