What's really happening with Fukushima?

Do you ever say anything useful, or are you here simply to spout negative shit on every thread you enter?

I also wasn't aware that in order to have an interest in something ('something' being one of the largest disasters in histor that threatens the entire planet no less), I had to be actively working in that geographic area to change the effects of said disaster.

If you're not interested in discussing it, then fuck off and leave the thread.

Simple.
I say plenty of positive shit about small businesses and being an entrepreneur and people shit on me all the time.

I asked what I thought was a logical question. What can you do to change the effects of said disaster when it happened in a different country thousands of miles away???

Maybe you could actually fucking contribute to your own thread instead of doing a chicken little and running around in fear with no solutions.

My solution is that it is thousands of miles away and we dug the stuff out of the earth in the first place so it will eventually disperse on it's own. I trust that the government of Japan will do it's best to clean up the site and that there isnt a damn thing the USA or the international community can do to affect that.

So, where am I going wrong?

I say we just nuke it. Like fighting fire with fire, only with the fire that burns for 200 years or so. Good times! YO!!

Yes, the good news is that the ocean will disperse it...

Where am I going wrong again?
The article lists 36 reasons you're wrong.

Where, at any point did I say I'm trying to change the effects of the disaster? I started a thread about the harm that's being done to the Pacific (and subsequently every) ocean, in an attempt to discern the hysteria from the actual facts. Then you came along huffing and puffing blowing down straw men, being an absolute douche bag, intended or not.

Who is acting like chicken little? I didn't know about half of this stuff until about 4 hours ago, and I thought other people might like to know about it too.

I love your "if it comes from the earth it can go back in the earth" argument. Please, tell me when/where in nature, a nuclear meltdown occurred. Are you seriously implying that radioactive ore and enriched uranium/plutonium rods in the process of a meltdown, are similar and the ecosystem will react to them similarly?

You might be completely apathetic to what's happening, that's your prerogative; but why do you have to be such a dickhead about it? There are people who are interested in what's happening and want to discuss it.

Now, instead of discussing Fukishima, I'm arguing with you about complete bullshit, e.g. defending why there's even a thread created about this topic.

I suppose if you have been around for the LAST 3 DISCUSSIONS OF THE SAME THING!!! You might feel differently... There have been multiple threads about the topic. Congrats on being late to the party.

The ocean is a REALLY REALLY BIG PLACE!!! You are going to be fine...

I'm not concerned with how the pacific ocean water will directly affect me. I'm concerned with how it's already been affecting the wildlife.

If you don't like this 'party' why stop in? You must either enjoy the party, or you enjoy being unhappy.

I think there might be a touch of validity to the vastness of the pacific ocean thing.

As I understand it the problem presented to the world is the slow run-off of water from the area into the ocean.

Now, as absurd as the comments were about "it comes from the earth" sounds, that might be the real key to this. Sure, there is nothing similar between ore and the highly refined end product. But by the time it has been diluted a few million times, or billion, by the ocean, it might all be harmless after all, just as the ore is in the ground, before its concentrated several million times.

But Im still leaning towards this being one of those things that people are dealing with 500 years from now, and that people are talking about 5000 years from now as one of the big problems of the past.

The sad thing is that had the Japanese not been so secretive about it from the start, we might have had a chance to mitigate the damage it was going to cause. But they stuck their heads in the sand and now we have a disaster we cannot do anything about.

Ill admit, as someone who is not a nuclear physicist, I don't fully understand what is going on.

The Russians entombed their disaster, after killing a bunch of helicopter pilots that dropped neutron sponges into the exposed core. The Japanese have no such luck, they have to somehow get many radioactive fuel rods out of their holders, if even one were to break or be dropped it could possibly be the end of Japan as a livable area for the next few thousand years, I think there are hundreds of fuel rods that must be cooled and moved, if not, then China syndrome. Fuk U makes Chernobyl look like a girl scout weenie roast.

Many of our reactors have the same design I do believe.

The design is fine. As I understand it there was some negligence. A levy or something that was left open, that if closed could have prevented the tsunami from hitting the plant. It was a perfect storm to some extent.

Their first mistake was building a reactor on a fault line.

Why did you feel the need to comment in a thread just to tell people to stop commenting in the thread? If you have no interest in the subject, why bother posting at all? Just to be negative? Just to be condescending to people? To make yourself look 'cool' on the forum?

EDIT: Back on topic; from what I was reading there were pipes that were used to transport water as cooling in an emergency, and they were shut off electronically before the storm. After the power went out, and the diesel generators were flooded there was no manual way to open the valves (several people tried and died). The rods overheated, burned through the steel container, then through the safety measures. There's 7m of concrete below as a safeguard, and it's already burned though 70cm.

Just because you're not interested in learning something, doesn't mean others aren't. Why don't you just pick up your toys and go home?
What we have learned so far is that you missed several major threads covering the topic here. Then we learned that you have no solution to the issue, you just wanted to scream FIRE!!

Now you are busy yelling shut up like a 14 year old...

Yeah, we learned alot so far.

You havent come up with any solutions yet right? You could always go over there and volunteer for the cleanup... I am sure you can find a fake website to donate money to so you feel better... Or maybe you could go out on the internet and read every crack pot article about the disaster killing all life on the planet and come running back here to post on it... Oh wait...

You want to learn something new? Those scientists stuck in the ice? They were global warming scientists... Go figure...

Got Potassium Iodide???
The US goberment just bought 14 Million dosses

http://www.thedailysheeple.com/us-government-orders-14-million-doses-of-potassium-iodide_012014

Althow potassium iodide would not be very usefull at all for a fukushima type event

KIO3 only helps block 'radioiodine' from the body , radioiodine is a mostly decomposition product of a nuclear explosion , While their is some radioiodine in fuelrods and other radioactive waste sources , It will be the very least of your worries

By the way the purpose of KIO3/KIO4 is to saturate your thyroid with non-radioactive iodine so it cant assorb the radioactive stuff , Their are several other ways of doing this like rubbing tincture of iodione on your stomach everyday . This is helpfull for those that cant stomach the KIO3

Their are a number ways you can help your body block and eliminate the radioactive materials thow
