this has been a quandary of mine for some time..if someone asks you to describe someone else the first thing you don't say is "white" girl and so on..however, when the person is black, the first thing out of your mouth is "black" girl..

It depends on what you are, and what the persons you are talking to are.
right? but why do we do this? when you think about it, it makes no difference..is the fact that someone is black or white have to do with the subject at hand? often times not.. yet, it is still this way..
I guess that's where you are from and the crowd you are in. It's pretty 50/50 here and if you want to be descriptive, you say white guy-black guy. We never say African American at our hospital, there are 12 of them (African citizens that either are, or will be American citizens) and 8 are white. It's an offensive term to actual Africans.
Words paint a picture in the mind. We do it to be descriptive.
If you're trying to identify someone, you'd say, what, the person has a big nose, tattoo down their arm, black skin,, sexy lil ass, etc etc.. no?

Very true, but we like to be descriptive. You may even tell a story about someone and mention how fat, or if they are red-headed and freckled, or tall or short, it's just part of telling a story.
Well shit then, why say tall or short or big and fat while we're at it, this way we can insult anyone we want and no onewill have a cblue as to who the hell we're talking about ..

FYI black people don't often have the luxury of tracing their ancestry back to a particular country.
