I was just wondering if say.. I had a few ounces of pounds of substance in a locked box, got pulled over and "forgot the key", what rights they would have for forcible entrance into the box?

As far as i know if you did nothing wrong besides like speeding and you refuse to allow a search they cant even look. If you let them search they cant open locked boxes, if you make it suspicious that you have something in a locked box they can get a dog to sniff and then have reason to open it. Some say they threat with getting dogs but never do and others say cops love to get the dogs out if it seems like theres something to find.

Thanks man, anyone know how to dog-proof a box in that case?

Thinking about filling it with tools and taping the bags to the side, or keeping them in a seperate tray of a toolbox, and just telling them they're like a relatives tools and I don't have the key, and if there were tools jingling they'd have no probable cause.

Thoughts?

You can't really fool the dogs. Drive the speed limit and make sure all your lights work and license/insurance is up to date.

Yeah, I was planning on all that, this is just a worst-case scenario type thing, cause the cops around here are all horrible dickheads. (Aren't they everywhere?)

Dogs will sniff at any strong smell, won't they? I mean trying to cover it up would be pointless, but like.. putting it in multiple bags wouldn't help?

I'm going for a box with a VERY hidden compartment on top of all that.. I'll just abide all the traffic laws and fill it with tools to rule out probable cause, and hope for the best.

I might just be thinking way too into this, lol.. but better safe than sorry.

as far as i understand if you have your trunk or glove conpartment locked you can insist on them getting a warrant...however...if you resist in some instances it can be taken as probable cause in which case no warrant is needed....there is a fine line between illegal search and seizure...

now with that being said...im in construction and drive a truck...i make sure when i am transporting that my bed is full of either tools , materials, or my favorite a load for the dumps...ive been stopped with 5 pounds in the bed of my truck with no problems...just make sure your license registration and insurance is in order...you dont get loaded before you make your trip...your not dressed like some gangbanger asshole, and always always always.....treat the officer with the utmost respect answering all questions and finishing the sentence with yes sir.....also...this is a given to most but not for some....dont transport firearms with pot...the pot alone is a charge..the pot with firarms adds up to about 4 different charges....:joint:
