Are cars like the Tesla Model S the future?

"Real racing" AKA F1 racing the craziest of the crazy, DO use computer asssited transmissions. They're 'semi-automatic' for a reason.

Watch these "real racecars" complete this part of a circuit compared to "real(er) racecars?"

It would be so absolutely retarded to use a manual transmission in F1 it's not even worth discussing. You'd literally be shifting 2-3 times per second some times.

NASCAR is different. There's no fast paced turns and zig zags, chicanes, s-turns, esse's, adelaide's, hairpins, etc., etc., etc., It's one giant left turn.
F1 cars used manual transmissions for a very very very long time before computers allowed the drivers to switch from a clutch to a crutch. F1 doesnt thrill me any more. it's a game for rich ponces and corporate sponsors.
i wouldnt mind drivin one, but i dont care for watchin those hamilton beach kitchen blenders whizz about the track on Liquefy

nascar likewise has abandoned it's roots, becoming an irrelevant spectacle, instead of a demonstration of your car's prowess and your driving skill. stock car racing used to use figure 8 tracks, so you had to turn right as well as left. eliminating the right hand turns transformed stock car racing into a "tuner" endeavor, with the suspension, gearing and "cockpit" re-engineered to squeeze maximum performance out of a fake car within the strictly controlled confines of an oval track.

even horse racing has become the sole domain of specialist breeders with multi-milliondollar nags who can only run when they are carrying anorexic midgets on a styrofoam saddle.

if your shit can only go fast within the artificial environment of a specially prepared track, and with gimmickry and gadgets, its just boring.

That's cool. It doens't mean it takes less skill, the cars are faster, and reactions need to keep up. It's like guys pining for the olden days where hockey players used wooden sticks... lol

"Back in ninteen dickity-two... rabble babble, freeble fabble...."

It's not gimmickery, it's breaking thresholds that old cars and old drivers were incapable of doing.

EDIT: not sure if the video I posted was working before, but it should be now...

squeezing a little more speed out of the engine, and replacing driver input with computers doesnt imrpove racing, it wrecks is.

F1 is rapidly approaching Slot Car Racing in it's excitement.

soon the "driver" will be just ballast, and all he has to do is mash the Go Faster Button as his "car" whizzes around on rails, operated entirely by computer.

Fuck Yeah, wood sticks! I watched a guy break 2 sticks last night...in ONE shift. I want smaller goalie pads, wood sticks, no plastics in padding, no 2 line passing and no more leaving the bench penalties.

Hockey was better back in the 70's.

This thread was not about Bucky, and had nothing to scream "That's Racist" about, despite the entire thread devolving into a discussion of Races and Racing.

Fortunately now this thread is finally All About Bucky.

As it should be.
