Very Confused About Setting Up Hydro

So ive been tossing around the idea of hydro and i think im leaning towards it.

The Game Plan
30 site multiflow Ebb n Flow system

The idea is to just go ahead and buy the multiflow controller from here And then 30 upper and lower pots off the same system (if you hadnt noticed im basically buying the whole setup off hydroponics.net but in bulk separately and then picking up a spare pump for the rez. Im just gonna pick the 55 gal plastic blue drum up somewhere around where i live (any ideas what public place sells them?)
Then ill pick up some 3/4" pvc and some fittings at home depot and be ready to rock.

THE MAJOR QUESTION

If im using a 55 gal reservoir and a 30 site flow system how much nutrients do i need to add? Do i reuse nutes or add brand new nutes every week or so? Isnt that very very expensive?????????????

Also how would autos work in this situation?

THANKS FOR THE HELP IN ADVANCE :bigjoint:

You add nutes when you add water.
If you keep putting more nutes in the same water, it will accumulate too much concentration.

Take your EC and pH levels and act accordingly.

A good trick is
WHEN YOU FIRST FILL U YOUR RES OR BARREL MEASURE HOW HIGH UP 10 LITRES OF LIQUID CAUSED THE LEVEL TO RISE.
THEN, LATER, WHEN YOU'RE TAKING EC/pH LEVELS, YOU CAN ESTIMATE THE AMOUNT OF SOLUTION IN YOUR RES/BARREL.

I'd say that flow control device is a big waste of money for starting. I'm not really sure what it does that a simple timer on a pump wouldn't control.

I agree.
I use a £25 maxijet 1000 water pump
I have 3 x Wilma systems with a Maxijet 1ooo in each
and a 4th pump as a spare.

I predict failure. You have no experience and obviously no clue, why would you start with something so complicated and large?

Dude seriously shit man ay!

You cannot start racing cars in F1 so why with obvious lack of any knowledge would you even attempt such a grow. Not to mention just how much cash you will have to fork up for that set up.

The basis of your post mentions the E/B but that is your last consideration, what is the GR set up? I would grow a plant when you can successfully grow a plant with a good yield then look at growing more. Growing weed is simple stuff, but running a 30 station grow room is not.

Congratz you are the first people in almost a year on here that didn't give any advice you just put down my plan. Thought RIU was more of a family then a frat.

Now I may have no experience in hydro but hydro is supposedly the easiest. Its all fucking automated. If you follow instructions its pretty basic common sense. Now 30 is a lot for a first hydro but 30isnt a set number for me but more or a goal to reach. Realistically ill probably do 20 autos maybe more. If you predict me to fail and wish to just slander my plan then please leave my thread.

@North- What's your take on the whole me being new and doing 20-30 autos my first run then ill probably add 10 more to make it 40 and add another system and do veg tent with 20 then 20 in flower. I know its a lot and I'm willing to do the work and learn. What's EC?

Also for the one who said it'd be costly well it'll cost me 1200$ including hydroton netpots etc for a 30 plot setup. It'll only be like 50$ less for a 20 and so forth. So for me to either spend 1200 on a system for yearly use or spend 1200 in dirt every couple months. I don't want to keep ordering dirt since I live in a place with no hydro stores.

@any auto lovers- what kind of feed scheduels/times on an ebb n flow for autos? Thanks :bigjoint:

Bro I've done hydro for years.... its fun because its challenging....
but that was for lettuce and tomatoes

Weed is different from a value vs. effort point of view....

...if you are doing it for fun, I support and encourage you...
But if you really need the meds (and don't have the time/money margins to screw around), then I'd study up on coco DTW

then maybe after a lil then maybe switch to all the cool techno DWC hydro stuff (hell I got some pics/designs of some damn cool DWC setups)...
anyway
I'm almost on a friggin crusade pitching the ease of using coco...its so easy & fool proof its ridiculous....

There is nothing wrong start in in hydro... it's not rocket science. My only question is why autos? Seems like a waste of time to me.

Your system will hold 55 gallons plus the 30 sites. So what... 150 - 200 gallons? That much water should be pretty stable and hopefully you only have to change it 3-5 times the entire grow. Nutes are pretty cheap I like dynagro or botanicare.... lot of ppl use general hydro. Probably like 500ml - 600ml of base nutes in the system at full speed as a very rough guide.

Make sure you really research different setups and decide this is really what you want esp if you plan on a specialized setup. I don't think a 30 site individual ebb n flo is very common, there could be a better way. You are doing the right thing asking questions before jumping in spending money.

I have advice on saving your money on that unneeded controller for starting out. How dare I advise you not to throw away money on something you don't need to get started.

Superstoner knows hydro, he's got a good thread about his diy setup that's modified from stinkbuds setup. Both have great threads on here.

Hydro can be simple until something goes wrong. then things can crash quickly. You need to have read enough before hand to have an idea of potential problems, how to prevent them during set-up, and how to solve them if they happen.

sometimes the best advice is that which you don't want to hear.

well, I hope it works out for you. I really do. buuut

i predict another thead in a few months......why are my plants turning brown? Or what's this stuff in my reservoir? or why does my ph keep dropping?

not saying you won't hit a home run your first @ bat. You may. and I hope you do. dynagro is pretty easy to use....go light on it.

I advise starting SMALL 5 plants or so. figure that out and go from there.

good luck.
