For flowering
in a tent 2x2x5 ft i have 215w of cfls how much more heat would a 250w hps add to the tent if i got rid of the cfls and put that 250w hps?
Also whats better 150w hps or 250w cfls ?
Does hps require more ventilation?
CFL has a color and HPS has a color...just to keep it simple. So, generally you want a full spectrum of the band we monkeys don't see so well in. It is call PAR.
The photosynthesis portion. So, yes, you can do it all in CFL, if you mind your colors. Absolute color scale is in degrees of temp on the Kelvin scale. (starts at absolute Zero) What we want, the numbers are much higher.
So, we want around 6500K for Veg. That is a very high energy bluish light. But, for the late summer time, it is more like HPS at 2700K.
But, yield is watts. And not the human apparent watts. So, is your 215 really more like 60 actual watts? Or did you add up the actual watts already?
So, yield per watt. If I can get a full 1000 grams this run of 4 plants under 1000 w, that is almost too good. We will see.
Heat. CLF is cool. I have a 32" sq tent with one 250w actual CFL The bulb is almost $100. When I try to add the 150w CFL, too hot with 350w CFL.
I think you would be better off beginning with the blue CFL at 6500 and then add to that the 2700 CFL for bloom. Bigger plants need more watts.
Blooming is all about yield.
I can't run HPS in my tent. I run HPS in the bathroom in a water cool light.
Heat is the killer indoors.
