I am brand new at hydro and thought I had it all figured out...turns out it dont! I germinated seeds and when they were 1/4" sprouted i put them in rockwool, in the net pots, with pebbles and plain ph tested water. The sprouts turned to mush. What did I do wrong? Rockwool too wet? Rockwool needs to be treated with nute's? Dumb question here, but does the rockwool sit on pebbles or do the pebbles just surround the Rockwool. I ask because even though I have the water level just to the bottom of the pots the Rockwool is very wet. Any help would be great.

it could be different things. try to get to 3rd set of leaves before you put in bucket, I do ok with 2 sets of leaves. don't put the light to close to the seedling. some strains react different than others. dwc will frustrate you at first, but when you get it down it will be all good. people will have different opinions on the water level. as far as pebbles go, fill your net pot up half way or so and put rockwool in then surround it with pebbles.so you will see just the top of rockwool. this is how I do it, someone else may have a different way. i can put my water up in my net pot about an inch and my rockwool will still get dry sometimes.(may depend on air stones and air pump) I hate top feeding. most will tell you to keep water below and top fed. you will find what works best for you. also it is winter time in most places so make sure water isn't to cold. where I live when it turns winter my water is way to cold out of the faucet.

nothing is a waste of time if you learn from it. i'v had this happen a few times. man I still have problems now and then. hell I wilted my plant about a week ago cause I got bad reading from my p.h. pen because I forgot to rinse it off before I used it and it had residue on it from last time I used it.lol. so don't fell bad. brain fart!! sometimes it can be the simplest thing to screw you up.
