Sorry.. lol Stresssss in my life right now, I've been reading the posts, just haven't found the time to post yet.

I have NO idea if you could grow a carrot in a dwc. Worth a shot eh?

Before I let my cat eat my cucumber plant.. it was a few days. I just went back in and the leaves at the top are growing like crazy!!!

I dunno what I'm gonna do with this thing. Let it keep growing, or chop er' down and try a carrot? lol

Opinions?

Day 70

Here are the pics!!

I think I'm going to keep it going. I found at least 4 female flowers on my plant. 2 of them I just pollinated. The other 2-3 have yet to open.

I'm planning on flushing out the reservoir today. Fresh new water for my baby may help. I'm also going to add just a super small amount of the basic fertilizer I have, and I'll try some molasses.

The plant is so tall now, I cannot lift my overhead light any higher :p I'll have really train her now. Ohhh I never knew how much fun a simple cucumber could be ;) ... lol
(Get your minds outta the gutter people.. :p )

Day 74

Well things seem to be going good :). I flushed my reservoir the other day, and like I said put a bit of fertilizer and molasses in it. I made sure to mix the molasses in boiling hot water so it wouldn't clog up my air tubes... so far, so good. You'll see in the root shot that the water is now discoloured (obviously due to the molasses).

The roots are feeling a bit slimy. I believe it's due to the molasses. (You know when you leave molasses mixed with water sitting too long it gets kinda funky? Think that's exactly what is happening in my reservoir. )

I will now have to clean out my reservoir much more often. I'm hoping for every 2 weeks.. but it may end up needing every week. We'll just have to wait and see.

I may also pick up some Peroxide just to help protect my roots.

The green colour in my leaves is coming back :)

The new green leaves :)

Even though this is a Marijuana growing forum, this is my favorite thread to see progress in. I have never saw a cuc grow b4. I bet ur leaves went yellow because the nutes are now being focused to produce the cucs first and leaves are secondary, just a guess tho...

i had some cucumbers in a dwc system as well, they are very very hungry plants!!! they got so big i had no choice but to pull them from indoors and put them outside. they are currently recouping alongside a row of week old cukes. more notably they are a very resistant plant. i had a few leaves getclipped here and there and they always seemed to heal up right away, while managing to continue it's explosive vegetative growth.

Day 83

Well the cucumbers that were on my plant shriveled up and died, so I am now trying to use a paint brush to pollinate instead of a q-tip. I did this last night and today, and my new female flowers are already starting to wilt. I'm hoping this is a good sign :)

I also cleaned out my reservoir tonight. app. every 2 wks seems ok to do so. I again put in molasses and a very tiny amount of ferts.

Since putting in molasses, my roots have started to heal and grow like crazy. Also, the blooms on my flowers are much larger, and stay on my plant longer.

My foliage is also growing great!! Some of the top leaves are now a bit bigger then my hand. Like Jrogers141210 said.. these are very resistant plants :)

Cross your fingers pollination works this time!!!!

That definately looks like a healthy root system! I wonder why the cukes shriveled up and died like that? I thought once they are pollinated they are pollinated? weird. Anyways, good luck with everything, hopefully you get some sexy cukes!

Maybe since your plant is so tall, the root system cant deliver enough water to support those cukes. Id be willing to bet money if you laid the "scaffolding" down so it ran horizantilly like a cuke would naturally grow you would have more success:peace::hump:

I was thinking more along the lines of me damaging the flower before pollination occured when I was using the q-tip. The q-tip was quite large compared to the flower, so I did have to put some extra force just to apply it to the inside of the flower.

This paintbrush is perfect size. If they shrivel up again, I'll know it's something else going wrong.

Great point about the vertical growth though! You may be on to something. Only downside is I can't more my trellis horizontal now without breaking the plant.

I guess if this doesn't work, I could always try a horizontal grow next time.

cucumber scrog. lol

I'm growing melons (cantelope, honeydew, and watermelons) and they grow very similar to cucs. I didn't build a trelis, but I have a small fence nearby I directed them to and they are all climbing up that now... All of the plants just started producing flowers about a week ago. Does anyone know if the melons grow male and female flowers?
