Hey guys.
I started my first ever grown using Wilma hydro system with Clay Pebbles, foxfarm nutes, both types of light, etc etc, basically, everything I saw on youtube that said "IT'S AWESOME!" :hump:

OK, everything is going swell, the plants are like "WOW WE LOVE THIS!" and we are like 3 weeks in from seed(Blue-cheese Auto) And Im thinking Oh my god, This IS Awesome. Then...
Today I went to flush them and I picked up the biggest of the 4 plants and almost dropped my jaw when a huge alien like tentacle came sprouting out of the bottom of the pot. It's like, HUGE! A huge root, it came out of the bottom!!!????
So I flushed them and put them back carefully all the time trying not to disturb the exposed rootage too much, and now this thing just lays in the drainage valley under its pot.
IS THIS RIGHT?????
Am I over watering? I was doing 30 mins on, 30 mins off over 18 hours, with 6 hours of complete dark and no liquid. I thought "Is the plant thinking it's in a deep water system?" or what?
Is it OK to just leave the root? At the moment it is exposed to the lights and is just... there!???
How would I go about flushing them in the future if the roots are all hanging?

Any advice would be awesome.

Many thanks

lol i wouldnt worry about it, the plant will eventually trim that off, sometimes they just shoot roots out the pots looking for more moisture and exposed to open air they will eventually die, again i wouldnt worry about it, its quite normal

Hey it looks like you have some really strong root growth. Congratulations you are doing everything right! Roots will find every hole possible to escape from. Like the Wizard above me said it's quite common to see roots in odd places. If it's in the way or annoying you can just snip it off.

Normal. If you cover that root zone with something to block out the light, they'll spiderweb across your tray if you flood often enough to keep them moist...and 30 on 30 off is DEFINATELY enough to keep them moist. I flood 4x total over the 18 hour lights on period.

Oh that is such a relief! Thank You for the replies you guys I am really chuffed that I am doing it right, I was quite cautious because I was under the impression that the roots are... like.... sacred entities that will kill their above ground symbiont if disturbed or broken.
That is awesome that they won't.
Thank You again. I'm sat here with me morning coffee and smoke, BEAMING :D
