T5 Light Setup Help Please

Ok so i'm about to order this setup for a veg tent (this is also my first grow attempt)

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221365419208?var=520239660418&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

but before i order it i just want to double check it will be adequate for what i need or if i'm going to need another light, I know the light has to be 2 foot as the 4 foot version wont fit in the tent i'm getting i'm looking at a maximum of 8 plants for veg only, ideally ill be doing 6 till i get used to things but i will want to increase to 8 later

Also the reason i want to use a T5 is because my electricity bill will be getting sucked up from the hids in the flowering tent also i want a 1m x 1m tent due to available space i think a 1.2m x 1.2m would be pushing it

My questions are these:

Will the tent be big enough? (ideally i want the 1m x 1m if i can get away with it)
If the tent isn't big enough how many plants will it do at most?
Will these lights be enough? (if not will the 8 tube variant do or which do i need?)

I did a bit more googling today and i don't know if i'm just over thinking things too much

Imo t5 are good for starting plants only. People have grown with t5 but the bud is going to be loose and what I call air bud. It will work but it's going to suck imo. Get you a 250w or 400w hps if you want some nice dense buds.

Edit: OK just read your vegging only. That will be fine since vegging doesn't need a lot of light but you would still do better with a small mh or hps.

I'm only looking at using the t5 for the first 8 weeks of veg then they go into a different tent to flower for another 8 weeks i'm just looking for the best option to keep electricity costs down, obviously i don't want to have shit bud either final plan is two have both tents running permanently with the veg tent being on 24 hours that's gunna be the main cost ( i don't wanna have a killer bill which sends a red mark to leccy company)

would the 8 tube T5 be the better option or the 250 w hps i would have gone for the 250 w hps i just didn't think it would be enough light?

I'm not exactly sure but it could be Google I'm sure. Just enter lumens and what ever bulb and watt your looking at.

Cheers dannyboy i need a bit more info off him than that hopefully he will reply though :)

I think i have the flower tent sorted but i do have a couple of months before i need to worry about that :)

I just wanna get things started with a tent i can use permanently for vegging, it will be cheaper as i don't need carbon filters etc to begin with and then gives me a couple of months to save the money up for flower tent :)

cheers ilyaas will 1 set of t5 lights be enough? and will i need 4 tube or 8 tube? also you can get different watt tubes as opposed to 24 watt per tube if i got 4 could i get a higher wattage?

i have to get 2 foot lights as the 4 wont fit. it was only when i did a 4 foot conversion i realised which is a pita

24 watt for one plant would not be enough for the whole light cycle but for sprouting they should do good, Once you get to about week 1 of veg you are probably going to need 4x24w so try getting the 8 tube but if you can find a higher wattage then use that.

  • That's what i mean its confusing the shit outa me lol, I plan on doing 6 plants possibly doing 8 later on will see how much room i have left with 6

With the setup i linked i'm not sure if it shows properly is for a 1m (w)x 1m (d) x 2m (h) with a 2 foot, 4 tube t5 i could go for the 8 tube if needed or even 2 x 4 tube that would still keep me at 250w or i could just get a 250w hps (with the hps i was sure it wouldn't be enough light) i could be wrong though, there's a lot of info regarding flower room setups but i'm struggling with finding veg tent setups

Check out this thread...https://www.rollitup.org/newbie-central/801376-i-seekwisdom-wise-ones.html
He used T5's start to finish. The resulting buds were very nice.
OK it's like looking at the cover of a high times magazine. To the average Joe they think it looks badass. When i look at high times i see a bunch of premature cut weed most of the time full of white hairs. I mean it makes a good picture but that's about it. So when i look at the link you posted all i can say is the top 2" of his plants look good. Other than that it looks like scrub bud. I don't care who you are (me too) you are not going to get badass dope off a fluoro, cfl, or led's. Sure you can grow it but without the sun or an hid your shit is gonna just gonna be mediocre.

i used to run par t5 and got rock hard dense buds.. I hated the replacemt of bulbs. I then switched to cmh and led. the lost my equipment and got induction / led going. still rocking that. I always had better results with t5's than hps in veg and flower.

here is some t5 er

go to my thread to see what i'm doing now. link in my sig

Thanks for your comment Hyroot looking at your thread i can guess what your opinion is on T5, would one x 2 foot T5 fixture work in that size tent with that no of plants or would i need 2 of them? also would you use 4 tubes or 8?

Feedback appreciated before i go and buy the 600w i'm looking at making a purchase in the next week or so once we move into the property and i can make sure the tent fits. (pretty sure it will but i have been wrong before )

As for changing bulbs i'm guessing bulbs last around a year? I'm just trying to make a saving electricity wise for the 18/6 lights, if using tubes i could easily stretch that to 24 hours as wattage would be low

As said previously i plan on using 600w hids in flower tent so i would presume the buds would become denser and the plants would fill out more there?

you could rock the 8 bulb 4 foot / 120 cm in 120cmx 120 cm tent. it would be tight but work..

I would go with led instead since you are in the UK. Hans panels would be great. They are one of the top 3 led companies in the world for plants. they use cree and osram leds which is top of the line. each panel covers a 2 x 2 . Theres 2 panels. one is 65 watts and the other is 80 watts.. Keep in mind the number watts and lumens means absolutely nothing. its about par /pff and cri. photosynthetcally available radiation / photon flux freq, and color rendering index

there plenty of threads in the led section running these same lights with awesome results
