Well, my request to have WCB pay for my meds was denied. Is anyone surprised? Apparently the medical literature isn't "evidence informed" whatever the fuck that means. What surprises me is they didn't even reference the policy manual or the act. They usually give me something to work with...but not this time. So this may be a little more challenging than I thought it was going to be. The good news is my doctor appArently supports me, so much so that she indicated that she prescribed it for me, so that's one less battle.

I'll stew on it over the weekend, but if you guys can think of anything I could do to lessen the pain of fighting with this group of people, please offer it up. This will ultimately end up at the appeal level where I believe I will be successful because of the charter. See, I'm already thinking of the next argument.

No clue if the following suggestion helps, but I'm trying...
I'd make a list of what "traditional" prescriptions you would have to take will cost WCB if you're not getting marijuana covered. If you can show them a savings if they pay for the pot it might help.
Re the evidence informed (not sure what that means either), the American Herbal Pharmacopeia has now included Cannabis. You can show them that their peers have done studies and can show the medicinal value....Doctors, WCB, etc wont be able to claim ignorance for much longer.

It is so funny that someone posted a link to the pharmacopeia and I just bought it!! I had a gut feeling they were going to go the " not enough evidence " route. I haven't been in a good battle for a while. I will definitely do the cost comparison. My god, they have spent the past 15 years keeping me good and fucked up. I will have spent 2 years coming off a massive dose of morphine, and I'm not turning around. They would have to pay for at least three meds ( chronic pain, muscles spasms, nerve pain) plus I can't remember when I slept a full nights sleep, and the meds to counter the side effects....The thought makes me sick!!!! Surely those costs will equal if not surpass my little 450g script. And only one medicine!!!!

Well, I just sent off my appeal to wcb. It was only 9 pages and I include a cdn peer reviewed study, something from the centre for substance abuse and an article from the harm reduction journal...I also asked that they not make me take this to the appeal commission...do you think they will acquiesce? So,I will probably know just after things flip to the new system.

I remember reading a thread in the Treating Yourself forum about someone trying to do the same as you. It was a while ago, but it may be of use to you.

They will not cover cause once they do there will be a slew of people doing the same and the will not make money.

for example if you were covered for say 150g a month it would cost say $10g = $1500 a month

80% coverage = $1200 savings

People would buy it and get coverage and only pay $300 for 5 ounces and just sell it.

You could make 4 or 5 hundred every month off the herb

Eventually it will boil down to; is it cheaper to pay for pot or pills. The cheaper one will prevail.

garden organics that is how i see the new way. import for cheap sell and resell with our laws having no effect. simply put it is mostly done in other countries and i can see another major loophole but i will keep it to myself. odd to not just deal with the abusers in the first place. i know a veteran of afghanistan that went to war came home fuked up and in the program growing and feeling better just to be blindsided and will now have to pay high prices for garbage instead of $2 per g. he felt accomplishment with each harvest in making his own medicine. sad shit import it from countries that tried to kill him.

Don't you see how that kind of thinking has put us where we are? I could have had a dg but he wanted to sell my meds..therefor no dg.

I already gave them a heads up that it's time to get their head out of the sand and realize that this is becoming more mainstream. I don't sell my medication I actually use it. They have spent thousand and thousands of dollars to keep me on a medications that did sweet fuck all for me except mess me up. They will cover it...for cancer patients so I was told. In the end, when I have to go to the appeal commission, I will win then. I just think they're going to make me fight tooth and nail for it. There are already three jurisdictions in this country that pay for it on a case by case basis. I have been deemed unemployable for the past 12 years and just because I don't want to eat morphine anymore doesn't change anything.

You're absolutely right leaffan...eventually the stigma will wear off and the least expensive will win out. In five years it will be commonplace for comp boards to be covering it.
