World Of Hempy

I had a little adventure last wk, I upgraded my lighting put in a 1k bulb in my flower area. I turned it on and it freaked out my girls, I raised it everyday to where it was almost 2' above the canopy, but the girls were traumatized. I don't know if it was the extra radiation or the change in color spectrum. After 3 days the buckets were still full, they hadn't drank anything. So I switched back to the twin 400 CMH. In one 11 hr light cycle they drained the buckets and now a few days later, they are building again at full speed. I lost a full 3 or more days playing this little game. As anyone else experienced a trauma, or break in period when first exposing plants to a 1000W?
You went from about 40k lumens to 150k lumens. Really just need to ease in to that big time. You'd probably have more par with that much extra power at 2'6" lol! Just start really high up and ease into it while the plants get acquainted.

So I broke a top of a branch on Saturday of my WW and so I took the chance to make it a sample cut. I am very pleased with the sample...this is going to be killer.

Hey Watt is your ballast dimmible? If so you can ease it in like others suggest.

What was your temps before and after the 1000 watter. The first two weeks in my flower (medium coco) I started off with a 600 then switch to a 1000 with no problem. But of course my temps were constant 75ish with no shock. Also I'm using digital hortilux bulbs...
I keep my grow rm in the winter at 66 to 68. Veg box with the lights on is 80, I don't have a laser thermometer to give an exact temp at the canopy, but under the CMH it's 75 to 85 (that's at 4" under the open hood). When I turned on the 1k I didn't put the glass on the hood but I did turn the hood exhaust fan on. Once I got the 1k up higher the temp difference no more than 5 to 10 degrees.

The 1st light cycle the bulb was only a foot above the girls, I'm sure I shocked the shit out them. Next try I'll start them under then 1k right out of the veg box, but I'll pull the hood up to the ceiling, and let them shake hands for a while, and slowly bring it down to a more intimate location.

Hey Watt,

I am not a HPS grower but from my knowledge of lighting and plants your idea of starting the light at the highest level is very sound, then slowly move it down to a comfortable height.

remember my indoor/sunshine grow last year when i put her under a 600 watt HPS for 3 days....there was no reason for it to react as it did, but it did.

I guess maybe they are just creatures of habit and don't like change, but yet I can move my gals from HPS to sunlight with no issues...go figure

anyhow, hope they recover and your only loss is 3 days of growth, unlike what happened to me

  • Been a few days since last update w/pics.

All is well, just in the wait and see mode. They are drinking 8 cups of H20 + nutes every two days.

Getting fragrant and frosty. I really waited to late on switching to 12/12, but live and learn. I though I waited to to short of time for my last grow. LOL

They have recovered very well, and are building buds fast. I'll get a photo when the lights come on in an hr.

Hey everyone. I am going to try my 1st hempy bucket grow. Does it matter what shape the bucket is? I seen 3gallon square storage bins and 3gallon oval waste baskets. Should the container be tall or does it matter at all?

I'd like to share a llittle Sunday Morning Sex, true bud porn.

Here are the reverse condoms filled and ready for sex

Installed condoms right when the lights went off, I'll pull them off in the middle of the night.

Hopefully I don't get too much spread past the target buds. But it will be nice to have some Satori F2 seeds in the drawer.

Hey everyone. Could you use miracle grow perlite for a 100% hempy bucket? If so should you do anything to do it before you use it?
MG perlite is not the best choice, it's a time release fert and meant to amend soil. Straight out of the bag it's too hot, and it burns out too fast and won't make it to the end.
If you want to add fert to a perlite bucket in the start and just water then look into a Controlled release fert like Osmocote. I've been contemplating starting a thread on the subject, just not sure which forum to start it in.

I would recommended posting in the "Advanced Marijuana Cultivation" ...or maybe under "Drain to Waste Hydro"...which ever I'll be looking forward to it

Yea I was thinking of Drain to Waste, due to hempy being a major component, also Nutrients but I figure there will be a little flack when I start talking about $0.80 per plant base nute costs. Also considering General MJ Growing which would give the most exposure. I don't think my super simple system would go over well with some of the rocket science in the advanced growing forum. I will post a link here on WoH for sure once started.

Cool....on second thought, why not Newbie Central, as hempy is easier than soil. I'm living proof of that
