BHO Yield Comparison: Fine Ground Blender Buds Vs. Lightly Hand Broken Up Buds

The bottom pic and the pic on the right look slightly better..to me
Just slightly though...idk they do look nice though
How much better was the yield...sorry I forgot and didn't see it right quick...you think its worth it...anyone else see just a slight creamier deliciousness I can't really describe

Nice. Right on!

I'm gonna call bs. It's a trick. They are same chunks from same batch.
LOL told you it's hard to tell! I think as long as the buds are deep frozen when ground up the oil will be the same color as un ground buds. Just way more product can be ran and even at a 2.44% higher yield that adds up too over time. A win win in my books

Qwiz I can run 62% more ground bud than un ground lightly hand broken up buds in the same tube. That's huge! A 2.44% higher yield than the un ground buds also.

So if someone wasn't running a lot of material it wouldn't matter much to them. They could just lightly break up the buds and be fine with it.

For me though It would be a very bad financial decision to NOT grind my buds up to run them. I can process so much more oil in such a less amount of time and achieve almost an identical product.
The only difference in the two runs look wise (in person holding them) is a very slight more orange tinge to the second batch. The first batch is actually a tiny bit blonder.
Kind of the opposite of how I thought it would be but I think the frozen grinding is the key.

This is very cool. Well done sir, I love seeing true side by side experiments like this!

2.44% higher yield does matter even more to someone running mass amounts, because 2.44% of a larger quantity is even more extract! Plus being able to extract more at once resulting in more effective use of time is yet another added bonus.

Thanks for this very useful info.

yo bc yoda. whats your take on this big assss tube you been using?

i like the idea of easily packing it, and it being easy to throw into a freezer..

i gots my thin metal tubes,. and although easy and efficient to blast.. i cannot freeze them for the rig is too big. as well as the packing de packing pain in the ass..

i feel a nice big chunker tube like this with the right technique in spraying could be a quicker better process..

soo. you still using this?

Yeah, I have found similar results though I don't freeze my tubes.... kinda hard when ya have 3 3 foot tubes. I need to get a dedicated freezer to do that, lol maybe someday ;)

Compressed air will empty those metal tubes fast! Do this outside lol.

wow big diff!! thanks for doin this I will always grind my shit up now, one thing to consider though when you finely ground it you put more in the tube to start with to run so of course it will be higher ;) this is awesome just due to the fact that you blasted over a pound of nugs lol......

fadedawg looks like the air is full of keif! I always noticed this dust left over and wonder if im getting everything...

Hey Guz ya man I love them. I have 4 of the big ones. I can run 300 grams of ground bud in each one. I pack them tight too and because they are so wide the pressure is perfect. Never had a blow out or even close to one.
I fill them up, deeeeeeep freeze them for a full day, then blast at night before I go to bed. In the morning the tane has pretty much all evaporated naturally with no added heat.
I would like to make some sort of holder for them though so I can auto blast them like you do with your wood rig you made. If I have that holder set up it would be so killer.
Gotta do that some day soon; make a nice custom 4 tube blast holder.
I get consistent yields of 20-28% with different strains which is the same I hear guys are getting with their small ID steel tubes so I'm loving the large tubes being able to stuff so much material at once.

Thanks for the props! The point of the comparison is to show two things; 1. You can run much more material in the same size tube with ground bud vs non ground bud 2. The yield is higher not because there was more material ran, but just because it was ground. The end result shows a 2.4% higher yield with ground bud. Id doesn't matter how much material was run..It doesn't seem like too much if you are running only a bit of material but if guys are running lots of material every week then 2.4% more ever time adds up very quickly. When you combine the two advantages of being able to run more material and yield more in relation to that material then it's a win win every time.

Yoda!!!!!

You fuckin bastard!!!!!!
I'm pissed...

J/k...lol

I am however super Jelly!!!
You s.o.b!!! :)

I got him some Reeeeepppppp like a boss.
Thank you for sharing this buddy...
You know, I've got a large ID tube also....

And the one time I used it, it was with some good not great material but pulled over 12% on trim..
I would rate the trim 7/10...

Maybe I need to start doing some experiments with the large ID..

I got a glass 1.75” ID..

Waiting on some new material, but I've got some older stuff to run experiments with.
I doubt I'll do it though...lol

The older/less appealing stuff...
Running mid level shit just pisses me off...

Again...

For the composition, I thank you.

how did you not see this when he posted it up 5 months ago lol, this is why i run my nugs through a coffee grinder.

what alot of people miss is that he puts it in the freezer after grinding it up, if you don't freeze it after grinding you will get green wax

Hey Sir D and Twitch man thank you guys for the kind words!!! I have learned so much from you guys I'm glad to have given back a bit with this experiment. I should really post up a lot more of the experiments I do but I get tied up playing with shit and forget to take pics etc sometimes. Sir D ya man you should play with that large tube. And I agree with you 100% I hate trying to get good oil out of not the greatest material.

Recently I ran a beauty batch of honeycomb crumble that was from popcorn mixed with sugar trim. So I decided to run another batch of some other popcorn with a bit older trim I had still. Totally different result even though the popcorn was the same but the trim mixed with it was older. The oil never waxed completely. It turned into a soft waxy crumble but not nice and dry.
So long story short I'm done ever trying to make a good product from anything but new fresh dank starting material.

Ya Twitch exactly man I always deep freeze the buds before I grind them and then again after I grind them. Getting it all real deep frozen again before blasting. I think it is really important. Like you point out, if you don't freeze before and after you will get green to greenish brown oil when grinding.

A comparison of running butane extracted BHO with fine blender buds vs lightly broken up buds.

-Used the exact same crop of Kush buds
-used the same glass extraction tubes
-packed the tubes with the same procedure and pressure.
-used the same number of filters
-used the same amount of butane per ounce of bud
-used frozen butane and frozen bud
-weighed everything with digital gram scale

Objective was to find out:

1. which will yield more oil? Using: fine ground blender bud or lightly broken up small pieces of bud in the same size extraction tube?
2. will the produced oil differ in color, smell, or texture made from fine ground vs lightly broken up small pieces of bud?
3. will running blender fine ground buds allow me to process more bud in a quicker amount of time than using the lightly broken up small pieces of bud?

The First Run Of Fine Ground Blender Buds
Ran 2 Extraction Tubes of 300 grams: 9 Cans of Butane Per Extraction Tube
Total of 600 grams

^^^ This Second Run Yielded 20% ^^^

My Conclusions:

1. Finely ground buds in a blender = higher yield than lightly broken up small pieces of buds by hand with no cutting or grinding

2. There was NO difference in color, smell, or texture of the honeycomb with either batches.

3. I can load way more finely ground blender buds in my extraction tubes than lightly broken up buds which will enable me to run much more product in way less time. I can fit 300 grams of fine ground bud in my tubes and only 185 grams of lightly hand broken up buds in the same tubes. And that's using the same packing procedure and pressure in the tubes. That is 62% more material I can process in the same amount of time resulting in the same quality of product.

Final Conclusion: I will always run finely ground blender buds in frozen tubes with frozen butane.

i been tryin to tell my boys this but they dont listen.. as long as ur using the right filters.. and the right amount of coffee filters.. u would be better off grinding it up.. i use 3 coffee filters.. with a stainless over it. and then an extra coffee filter on the outside.. and use a clamp to make sure no blow outs.. and let me tell u . i been getting some SUPER SHIT without a vac chamber.. but i do purge for over 72 hours without a vac an chamber.. to achieve a clean shatter.. but im harvesting this week.. so its like time to buy a new vac and chamber so i can make bho for others instead of headsmoke lol.. got 150 grams.. 15 diff strains. of shatter from my last harvest. lol.. and i smoke it alllllllllllllllllllll

What's the difference between shatter and honey comb? I'm getting getting good at makin shatter but I'm always open to new ideas to make the best product possible. What temps do you run? And for how long? I'm very interested in these extracts and how different they turn out because slight diff emcees in the proses

This thread will answer your questions. Just a quick read of almost 200 pages should clear things up for you pretty good :)
