After 7 successful grows with CFLs, I figured it was time to upgrade. So I took the plunge, and pulled the trigger on buying an Area 51 XGS-190 to use in my cabinet grows.

I only do one plant at a time, and the panel seems ideal for my cabinet. It's internal dimensions are 28" wide x 20" deep x 52" height. I'm looking forward to see how this light will perform in my setup.

I'm also considering trying something else this time around too. Now that I will have an even light distribution, due to the Area 51 being a panel, I can look into building a screen for the cabinet, and give the SCRoG method a shot...

I have a Silver Kush seedling who's anxiously awaiting her new sun next week-ish. (Area 51 said it would ship Monday) :mrgreen:

Can you post a before and after. Like post a picture of the CFL grow, and another of the LED. I've never seen it do as good.

I'm waiting for the tech to improve. Oh, the other thing is watts.

How much CFL actual watt are you replacing with how may watts actual of LED?

words to the wise, pay attention to the real led growers, not to the growerss that say shit like "waiting on tech to improve" i think statements like that are a great example of how un aware people are when it comes down to led technology. Any ways, WELCOME to the LED WORLD!

If your yield cant pay for it, ur doing something wrong, and assuming ur growing hps, i dont see how u wouldnt have profit to purchase one light, debt? Wack shitty weed? High bill cost that doesnt let u invest in anything? Lol

If that were true halogen lights would produce. Saying watts are watts is like saying work is work, depends on who's doing it. Efficiency in that sense could even be compared to how physically fit a person is. An efficient light would be like a fit person, as we lose efficiency and become less fit there is more work wasted towards other things in regards to the human work wasted lifting their extra mass while in the lights sense producing extra heat. There are LEDs giving some HIDs a run for their money, I doubt he'll be disappointed coming from CFL. I come from running HPS and CMH predominately and I'm not disappointed.

Maybe once I run SLH again I could do a direct comparison of CFL to LED.

For the most part I'm running a different strain each grow (SLH being the only exception, I ran it back to back, and as much as I love it, I want to preserve my SLH seed stock)

My old setup was using 2x 105watt CFLs as the main lights (that's actual wattage) and several 23w and 26w bulbs for side lighting. This new panel uses 195 watts in full flower.

Thanks man.

Yeh I've seen some pretty impressive LED setups in this forum. That's why I was confident in buying an Area 51 light. If I wasn't convinced of the technology I wouldn't have invested $500+ into it. I figure the light will pay for itself in yield and energy savings multiple times over.

Yep, I am planning to bring in some LED sidelights. 195 watts is maybe 90 grams of yield, more or less. It is all about the energy that makes it to the plant, correct?

Don't let these assholes tell you different.

imo, using led's, and expecting to get great results, is like using brews to make co2, a waste. for overall yield, which is what a lot, if not most folks are after, led's don't get it done. electrical costs aren't so great that it is a deal breaker using hid lighting. i don't see any large scale producers using led's, i wonder why??? do they work? yes they work. is there anything better to grow with? yes, hid is better. especially if yield matters to you...

Multipass just pulled 120g on his blueberry grow with a xgs-190. I think that's pretty good for a yield. He could have done even better with a different strain.

I just started my plant is why I cant invest yet. 600 hps. Only one plant right now so i ment after this grow if I can get one I will most likely if for nothing but veg.
