Can you live on minimum wage? (Calculator)

I don't think the question is relevant.

Welfare should be a protection for members of society who require temporary assistance, not as a cushion for people who refuse to advance themselves personally.
you don't consider holding gainful, full time employment to be a method of personal advancement then?

Not according to when i tried to sign up for that crap.
$440 a month for a gold or $230 for the crap bronze
that's only because your governor turned down the medicaid expansion, which he would not have had to pay a single penny for.

as it stands, your contribution would be capped at 3% of your income BY LAW.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Provisions_of_the_Patient_Protection_and_Affordable_Care_Act#Effective_January_1.2C_2014

that means $432 a year, or $36 a month.

unless, of course, someone else in your family is making a whole bunch more money than you are and you are living well through your sugar momma wifey.

maybe if you took the time to inform yourself, you wouldn't need a liberal to point these things out to you.

How can you consider it "gainful employment" if you can't support yourself on it?

And no, I call employment a means of survival, personal advancement can work to improve the nature of your employment however simply being employed does not count as personal advancement.

I'm sorry you cant seem to understand that if people choose to stagnate that they simply have themselves to blame.

so you are arguing that it should be the federal government's job to make sure a full time worker has food to eat, rather than the company who employs that full time worker?

because either way, that employee has to eat if he is going to continue stocking shelves 40 hours a week.

The irony of you berating someone for potentially living off their wife.

Thats just too much, Iv tried to be civil, but you're a total fucking hypocrite.

In fact, when you someday pay some taxes to actually pay for food stamps maybe you can discuss it as if its something you monetarily support.

so in other words, the minimum wage people should just bootstrap themselves up, but the people who are making slightly more than minimum wage should have no such obligation?

it is so fun to watch you idiots argue yourselves into contradictory circles. my puppy isn't chasing her tail so much anymore, so this will have to do for now.

Did that employee sign a contract stating their pay and conditions?

If they're too dumb to multiply their hourly rate across a month and figure out they can't afford to live, why do they deserve anything above minimum wage?

i'm sorry, who is the only one on this forum to post proof that they pay taxes?

that would be me.

and it is not hypocritical in the least for me to point out how mindmelted lives off of his wife and/or can't do math at the level of a first grader, since i do not live off my wife in any way.

although i do need her to watch these pups so i can go out and buy the lumber for my new 16'x10' indoor greenhouse.

OK, i get it.

you think the government should provide welfare so that corporations do not have to pay a living wage.

in other words, you have no problem with walmart being the biggest welfare queen in the nation.

this is a perfect illustration of why we no longer need unions!

And you paid how much in income taxes on your primary source of income?

that's not what you were arguing mere moments ago. you said that people earning slightly more than minimum wage should not have to endure the inhumanity of a minimum wage increase.

now you are saying these people should just bootstrap themselves.

why can't you just pick one tune and whistle that one?
