Ok so the bears are out...

Whenever I go for my run I have to look out for these guys, I always scan the woods surrounding our driveway (which is secluded from the road) Good thing I happened to look UP this morn:

Wow...Ninja bear...I like how you stuck around to snap a picture. Don't see those around where I live.
 
the weight of a 357 magnum or the equivalent caliber,
carried in a pack would be of great use, just in case
 
I would much prefer a .45 LC or a "throttled down" .500 Mag stuffed with a hard cast GC slugs.
A bone breaker is what's needed to stop them cold (ish).

It was far enough in the forest (sort of kitty corner) to snap w/ iPhone (which I run with for tunes) I was just plugging in headphones too.

LOL When I took a gun safety course many moons ago I got the chance to shoot a .50 cal revolver. The thing looked like a cartoon gun! I was intimidated by it so the instructor had to stand behind me. Glad he did. The kick on it was more than I expected. I did manage to shoot the target right in the heart. I still have the paper.

It's a lot harder to shoot the snubbies than a longer barrel version.
It's my Brown Bear belly gun. I wear it while 4 wheeling "just in case".

Not sure about the browns, We only have the black here. But I think the blacks are the only ones whole can climb trees. They usually keep to themselves. I just don't ever want to surprise one or come up on a mother. One year we had a have a heart trap out to catch raccoons and coyotes, and one night there was a bear cub stuck inside. Hub drove down in the true to trip the release but couldn't and was about to get OUT of the truck and I said "Oh no you don't" and shined our searchlight up the draw. And there was the mother waiting. Had to call the game dept. He was a cute little bugger though.
 
OOOoops I didn't mean that you actually shoot the bear, perhaps just a warning shot, but that kindle version is nice and sweet, whats it weigh ...?
