this is what i was taught
set your light up where u think it is the best for u ...........now take your hand so the palm is touch the plant (the closest part to the light) leave it there if the back of your hand is hot or feels uncormfy after 30 secs u have the light to close to the plant and back it off

with this being a spot light if u put it on the sides and cross it like stage lights ......i think 6 or 8 inches would be the best ......gives the light cone chance to spread out and get those top areas but still close enough to make sure u get effective light all the way too bottom of the plant

if u like the results of it u might think about a 3rd light directly above the plants about 8 to 12 inches ...........but at this point that would be the limit it would be more cost effective to get a Ufo or pannel............if u ask me about LEDs after the denver cannabis cup i will have alot more info to share (plan on hitting the booths and geting facts from the sellers looking for ones that offer best results vs pricing).........i am converting my whole system to LED from HID

Oh u are building

i had 2 things u might like ..............the bottom of your thing why not line with a mirror to reflect any light that hits up (some leaves will turn down to gather light like this )

the other thing was a disply turntable .........if u place the plant on that and allow it to turn in the light feild u should get a much better result (this only work for soil) ..........that one i linked is the best one i found so far it holds and turns up to 100lbs ...........i am not sure what soil is but i know 1 gallon of water is 8lbs............so 100lbs i am thinking 10 gallon bag no trouble

i was thinking about getting this when i do the upgrade and mess around with it as a exp ...............i am thinking the turning combined with a small electrical current (mimic earths natural feild at certin key points that the buds are known to grow very very well at)

never heard of them checking out what i can gather in with a few key searches
http://www.greatlux.com/goods_Gt3G-135W_45X3W_LED_OEM_Grow_LED_Aquarium_Lights.html

that is the maker of what u posted from the 2 data sheets i can see looks like everything is good epistar chips the power useage is under what the chip is rated the light waves are listed in the correct rates

they offer 3 years from the seller u were looking at plus the makers offer something .........price is reasonable compaired to other

it is just a crap shoot ................i do not know enough about the maker to say 100% i would order this .........they do not list the angle of the lens on it

to be honest i would tell u look at this one
http://www.amazon.com/Generic-Light-60x3W-Spectrum-9-Band/dp/B00INM0DCW

it is a 9 band for more rounded light (has IR and UVB plus the white)............they have the angles of the lens on the LED mixed 120 and 90 so u will get really good coverage...........this one alone would do u decent .........i would think oz maybe 2 off each plant

I went ahead and ordered that led... sucks though, estimated shipping time is between 17 and 28 days. So I'm going to go ahead and put them into flower by tomorrow and just swap the light when it arrives... have yo u ever had an amazon order come sooner then the 17-28 days it takes to come from, I'm assuming, China?

How many square feet would you estimate this light would cover? I couldn't find anything on the footprint in the specs.

china order ..............u are looking at 4 weeks to 8 weeks before u see it ...........and u are lucky u did not get hit with important fees......they are going to list it as something else when it is in customs ...........they mean 17 to 28 biz days (mon-friday)..............i order cashew seeds from india it took them 6 weeks to get here ( my mother in law loves me she has her own trees and supply of nuts now)

ciderghost .................the light i linked in that i would say 2.5x2.5 ...........the guy's 30x30 space that light should get a decently..........possible it could do a 3x3 but that would the very limit ...........anything bigger then a 3x3 u should look into a 300w led or higher

please know when they list the wattz that is not the actual power drawl it is just the llisted rating of the number of lights (the 300 w i own is only 175 w drawl with 2.2 amps )

the light he linked us .........i say 1.5x1.5 for best results 2x2 maximum.....be he was talking 2 of those in a 30x30 .........so it should fairly good

oh IR when u look at the light u might think the IR light is not working .............to test put your hand under the light and it should get warm with in a few secs ( this means the IR lights are working)
