Potting Question

is it best to start in the pot you will finish? i have a mate that swears by using 10ltr plastic potting bags to veg and then transferring to 18ltr pots for flowering. The transplant is seamless as you just cut the plastic pots away when transferring to the finishing hard 18ltr plastic pots.

Would it not be better to just start in the 18 ltr pot from the start?

I use Mykos on my roots so i always start in a one gallon then to a 3 gallon 3/4 the way full, then when those roots take over i lift the plant and roots right up as they should hold the dirt together nicely, and i add Mykos directly to the roots and break them up a little and place fresh dirt on the bottom and replant. I have had some insane growth this way and i tend to have a 1 month veg cycle and they are usually about 3 feet tall before i switch to flower. it depends on the strain as well but it works on all of em.

In soil grows. I start clones in root riot. Then to Solo cups, to 1 gallon, to 3 or 5 gallon depending on my intended finish size.

no no no lol em for you i would say two pots on for seedlings-veg then 10lt for flowering.. try not to pot them to much they will fk up on you for it

I have NEVER had a problem this way! I'll bet I've been doing it this way longer then you have been alive young man. Belief is in doing, not in myths or word of mouth. The way I do this creates explosive root growth that gives me shorter veg times and stronger plants. Yes, transplanting is stressful to a point. If done gently and properly, using the right nutrition it greatly reduces any recovery time. Just look at Unicloners post.
The Solo cup phase is to stabilize the plant and start the root growth/expansion. As the roots BEGIN to coil around the bottom of the cup it's transplant time. The 1 gallon is for continued, unrestrained root expansion. The final transplant is done when the roots in the 1 gallon are coiling around the bottom of the pot again. Now in the 3 or 5 gallon final pot. I allow the roots to again coil around the bottom of the pot and flip to flower at the desired plant size. I top, lollypop and super crop and get average yields of 4.5 to 5.5 zips per 3 gallon pot with a 5+ foot tall plant, strain dependent.

am 42 years old so maby your not growing longer than me. an yes you maby has some big buds but if you keep trying to make them bigger you lose goodness from the strain. i noticed this when i tried to make my buds bigger it was just not the same. my thc lvl drop by 8%. for the first time i start i used 3 pots thats all/ but if it works for you m8 GO YOU!!! share it with everyone so they maby do the same. hi all, some good reading, were growing indoors and my mate reakons the same as dr who, he gets a massive explosion in root growth, well he says the 18ltr pot is filled with roots.

i dont think a 18ltr pot is a bad thing so long as you have the room, weed would love even more if you let it.

To answer your original question, There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with starting in the pot you plan on finishing in. I have been doing this for 20+ years with never a problem and I will match my final product to any other. I have never understood the "logic" of putting a plant through any unnecessary stress

i start in 6 pack or veg pack squares, then 4" pot then 2qt, then 3gal or 5gal depending. and its def not too many pots. but everyone is different. i don't like to start in 3gal or 5gal because its a lot of medium to moisten just for a little plant. and if you don't moisten all of the 3gal of soil the dry part sucks moisture from the wet part at the expense of the plant. that's the theory and i'm sticking with it.

Having a small seedling in a 5 gallon container does not mean you have to water 5 gallons worth of medium. I water a small seedling the same as I would if it were in a solo cup...just a small amount around the base of the stem. Theres no need to dump water a foot away from the roots when the roots are only a few inches long anyway. As the plant grows, the roots expand outward and I water accordingly. The roots will expand by seeking out moisture, creating a strong root system and the plant will tell you when to water. Thats my theory, I know it works and as dannyboy said, everyone is different. Try either way Kiwi and see what works for you. I'd be willing to bet you won't see a difference. Good Luck!

i usually transplant 3 times to end up in my final container. you really have no idea where the roots will end up growing/going in your container. for this reason i start small, and gradually increase container size. i want all of the medium to be wet, and not guess where the roots may be going. if you start in a large container with a small plant, it will take a very long time for the medium to dry up. letting the plants dry up between feedings/watering, is very important. there are many ways to skin a cat, but i prefer to start in smaller pots...

I start in a clone box in rockwool then plant into 2 gal after a couple weeks then straight into a 32gal grow bag instead of having a bunch of little bushes to maintain i just tie down and have a 3ft by 3ft bush in 30-40 days and about 4ftwide by 3ft wide in another 2 months at the end of flowering. yielding around a 1/2lb to 3/4lb per plant all organic using the G.O. box and a 600w per plant. im doing my first plant with 1200w cant wait to c how it comes out

increasing bud size does not mean high lvl THC when you start adding all this mad crap to is you BIG BUDS!!! but that it just one big buds an less googness dues you people giving more than the need. just remember cannabis is a WEED same thing thats in you garden just you can smoke this one. so treat it like a weed and it will do fine i have a friend that tests me THC/CBD for me i grow good bud just by treating it like a weed an not pushing it over the top with all these top bob feeds. you dont need all them to grow why have to buy like 5-10 feeds for one plant more planing more things to think about if something goes wrong ahrrr to much to much
