FFOF questions

Hello,
I have been a member on rollitup for years now. I usually just sit back and read peoples threads. I had one indoor grow few years ago that went bad because of the smell which caused problems so I chopped her down immediately. It was that or jail luckily the cop gave me a choice. But now im in a different place that I wont have to worry about others.

Currently I got 4 bag seed in some scotts potting mix. I only did this because its what I had while I waited on my seeds to arrive. But all 4 of these plants leafs are turning yellow and crispy. They actually break into pieces when they are touched. I believe its a magnesium deficiency. But should I just kill em completely now that I have my new seeds? I will be able to get pictures up when I get home.

Now to my questions. I wanted to ask these before I actually started with the ordered seeds.
1) with ffof is it necessary to use nutes at all during veg? I see a lot of mixed opinions on it and some saying ffof has enough nutrients in the soil to finish veg. I only plan on vegging for 4 weeks.
2) if no extra nutes are needed during veg, how soon into flowering should I start adding nutes? I see some people say it all depends on the strain and type of nutes and soil your using.
3) I have 1 125watt cfl and 3 26watt cfls all of which are rated at 6500k going 18/6. Is this enough light for the 4 plants while in veg? I know in flowering im gonna need to add quite a bit more light

Thanks for any input and advice in advance. Will get pics up as soon as I can so you can see this burning dry crispy leaves im speaking of.
3)

sounds like you are going down the right road already..
i think you will be just fine with just water for veg, with the amount of light, and the amount of veg time you are useing, the plant should not need to work so much.
when you hit 12/12 top dress with more ffof..the strain/genetics/plants will eat what they want.

how big of pots you putting seeds directly into? Also with them being seedlings (depnding on how big of a pot and how big of a plant they are) you shouldnt be seeing any def at the moment especially in ffof, could be under or over watering, or also often times becoming root bound (dependent on pot size) but me personally id scrap the bag seed and go with the better anyways, nothing sucks more then planting bag seed waiting months and then getting dog shit or herms...we have all seen or heard of the dude that planted the bag seed and got that one amazing plant from all the work, but its not often and its tough for me to waste all my time and energy on something that I havent a clue what the product may end up like..

Honestly it really does depend on the strain, ive done full grows without adding any nutes besides bone meal and blood meal that i mixed in with the soil. And as for the lights, thats not much for veg, i have 2 autos under 3 23w cfls and 3 42w cfls, as u go up in wattage with cfls the lumens decrease per watt, apparently 23watters r the best cfls to use due to the watt : lumen ratio. And for flower ur deff gonna want some more light, but honestly if ur plants r happy then theyre happy, ill tell u what i tell everyone else on here, do what works for you and your ladys. As for the brittle leaves, i would go out n get some calmag n see if that helps, if not rip em out n start fresh wit some fem seeds, dont wanna waste time and energy on seeds that could possibly be males. If u dont plan on feeding in veg, which u probably shouldnt have to if ur only vegging for 4 weeks, your plants will let u kno if theyre hungry, but if u dont then 2 weeks after the light flip is usually wen i start feeding bloom nutes. Women are complicated in any species lol.

@genuity thanks for the feedback and recommendation.

@Schwagstock the seedlings went straight into the red party cups. I only planted them because I had them and was waiting on my fem blueberry seeds and some more supplies. I lost my ph meter so I got to get another one of those asap for when I plant the fems. They are only about 2 1/2 weeks old from sprout. Again the soil that these bagseeds are in is just some scotts potting mix which I believe is equivalent to miracle gro. Before I planted them I flushed the soil with 1 1/2 of the party cups worth of water so it didnt get any type of nute burn early on. These arent in the ffof. The reasoning why I think its a mag def is because it has some of the symptoms mainly which is burning leafs and crispyness of the leafs.

@Jussblaz3420 the 125watt cfl was given to me for free so why not use it lol. The 26watt cfls were on sale and ended up being cheaper than the 23 watt bulbs so I went with those. I plan on adding more light as the plant progresses. But I figured for the first few weeks the 3 26 and the 125 was enough. Definitely in flower im adding probably triple the amount of lights. Im aiming to get at least one 600watt hps but the way my money has been lately idk. My kids wont stop growing lol. I do have a 80watt cfl bulb at 2700k that i picked up for $16. Seemed like a nice price so i snagged it. i only plan on transplanting once. Start in a 3quart pot for probably first two or three weeks then moving to 3 gallon pots. I havent been able to find any cal-mg locally unless im just overlooking it every where. So ima order some online. I completely agree with u about the females being complicated regardless of the species lol

The first two picks are from april 22. The rest are from today the 28th. They look a little better from yesterday since I watered. Could it possibly been from underwatering? Because I definitely gave them more water last night than I have been.20140422_220246.jpg 20140422_220319.jpg 20140428_215141.jpg 20140428_215148.jpg 20140428_215214.jpg 20140428_215245.jpg 20140428_215254.jpg

them look damn good.
just remember ffof soil releases N everytime you water, and with a good root system(which i think them plants have),them cups may dry faster than, the plant needs any food, which may lead to some burning.

I've been vegging for 6 weeks with ffof and only now am noticing the need to add nutes. I when I first put the young clones in ffof I did notice quite a bit of yellowing from some burn.

@genuity thanks. I think they look good. If it is say a deficiency of some sort like magnesium would it spread rather quickly? im asking because it hasnt hit any other parts of the plants and is only where it initially started burning at.

@Cantare yeah thats why I asked before I started the fem seeds in the ffof. I wont be able to get any nutes for another two weeks and was curious if this might be from the scotts soil or what. Dont wanna start the fem seeds and have them all burnt up early on. I feel like what im saying makes no sense right now lol I just smoked me some og cheese some nice stuff.

But cool. Should I change the title of this so its more clear.

Quick question for anybody to answer. Should I mix the ffof with half perlite and half ffof? Or just straight ffof? This is my first time using a quality medium and dont wanna fuck it all up the first go around.

I did ffof and happy frog mix last grow and i didnt feed for the first two weeks but after that i had to give nutes. This time around im doing one part happy frog, 1 part ffof, 1 part perlite, and 1-2 parts pro-mix. Its super airy and my plants took off right after i put them in it. Its a good mix that isnt complicated but has a good mixture of everything your plant wants. I didnt water for the first week with this soil mix but they wanted nutes after that. Mixing with perlite and pro-mix will also help with ph issues some people have with ffof and happy frog. Ph is around 7 i think. I will be using this mix or some variation of it next time too, always room for improvement though.

If you are going to use only ffof i strongly recommend perlite. Especially if you are gonna be starting from seed or a tiny clone, it will make it easier on the root system to expand. FFof seems a little too compactable and hot to use on its own in my opinion.
