Hey guys, I just went to start a couple of seeds...c99 and Royal Queen Power Flower...

I am starting using water in a shot glass....

Well the c99 floated, but as soon as I put the RQPF in the shot glass it sank....

Any ideas why ?

I thought you put them in the glass, and when they sink they are ready to put in soil...could it have a tiny crack in it ? or something else ?

although I do not germ this way I would think that yes there had to be some kind of breach in the hull. All you can do Is wait and see if you get any tails showing

Let us know.

You put your beans in water. Some will sink almost immediately, others will take about 24 hours. After 24 hours, if the bean is still floating, I will give it a gentle tap and see if she sinks. If she does not sink, i will give her a tap every 6 hours or so. Typically within 48 hours, your beans should split, and you will see the tip of the tap root. I let them sit in the water untill between an 1/8" - 1/4" of the tap is sticking out. Thqt is when I will put the bean (root side down) into either a root plug, or directly into soil. Put the bean roughly 1/4" - 3/8" in and lightly cover her with soil. Usually within 24-48 hours they will break ground. If they do not, then I will "cheat" and remove some of the soil covering her, so that the seed casing is exposed. After she pops her head up, I will lightly put a bit of soil back on her.

All bean strains have different densities and sizes. Yes, it's preferable for them to sink, but not a big concern if they don't right away. That's another good reason why many of us "scratch" them before soaking in non-chlorinated water or similar. Good luck...I just popped some myself! Peace
