Great Way To Cool Your Hot Closet(Pics)

My grow closet was getting way too hot with the heat of summer. My house doesn't get cooled well in the back half where the closet is...well not cool enough to combat the heat from a 600whps. I even got a new bulb that has an internal reflector(BIG mistake...it blows...stretched the shit out of my plants) that was supposed to reduce heat buildup.

I can't put in a window AC unit or it will overload the breaker. That said...here's what I came up with. I took a piece of ply wood and cut it into a rectangle that was a little bigger than the air vent for the house ac. I cut a 4" hole in the center and attached some dryer ducting to it. Then I removed the vent thing from the floor(so now there's just a hole...no metal grate) Next I screwed the plywood to the floor over where the vent was.....then ran the ducting to my grow area...and at the end of that ducting I got a 4" in-line booster fan(one like you can get at home depot) It seems to work great....you get increased pressure from the air vent just from reducing the outlet to that 4 in. line...and then the booster helps it come out stronger still. Also one great great advantage is that even when the ac is off...that booster fan is still pulling cooler air that is in the duct system under the house. So there it is in a nut shell.


Sorry this ones sideways. I did have the ducting going into one of the inlets on the door...but it wasn't enough. It sucks that it takes away my stealth....but its better than dead plants, and I already overheated them enough.

And this little fan is the best fan I've ever gotten. Its super compact...probably 6" diam. It oscillates, and there are 2 vent outputs that you can aim in two directions.

Thanks for the approval. I couldn't afford another exhaust fan either, so it was my only real option...now I just hope I don't run out of vertical room before they're done. I think next time I'm going to run a cool tube.

Hey man, that little fan you dig, does it oscillate on its own or is it an aim and forget? I'm looking for a smaller tower style fan.

It oscillates on its own...and has 3 motor speeds. I got it because the normal kind of fans stick out too much and use up valuable space.

Oh yeah...I got it at a small local hardware store...I haven't seen them at home depot. It cost 18 bucks.

haha i got that same fan from wal mart about a week ago and it works good and doesnt take up much space. but...it started making a noise when oscillating one way, but not when it comes back the other way. still oscillates fine for now, but i feel like it might lead to problems later so imight go back and exchange it for another of the same. hopefully its not a trend for them and just mine is jacked up.

Dude thats week Spring for 80 bucks get a 180 cfm cage fan on www. and then now worries . Take care of the babies in the summer heat

You're weak!...its a 80cfm....24 bucks....and I already had it extra in my bag o goodies. Plus when the AC kicks on it comes out stronger than a 180. I'm just kiding you're not weak...you just can't spell

I had replied, but bailed. I was going down the temps route. A fan pushes ( and heats to a *ultra* minor part) 'house' air, but the AC is *much* colder air then a fan will toss at it.

I dig the idea!!!! Had been planning this type thing for a while but stopped. Gonna do most growing in the winter and use momma nature for cooling.

Thats what I've been thinking about to....growing in the ebb n flow during the cold months so I don't have to worry about the heat....and do a couple of crops in the summer with a mini greenhouse(so I could cover the sides during 12/12)

That looks purty kinky. I could not do that at my house. My plants like it around a hundred to 110 these days. It easy to train em. I mean they grow on the equator why would a person need to provide them with AC? Dont make a lick of sense to me. I specialize in edumacating dumb hippies. Let me know.

Its more of what best. You can dump any old water on them, stuff 'em in crappy soil, and they still grow. We just try to give the most love to them.
They also grow wild way way north of the equator too.

And what that 'edumacating' your talking about? :)
