10-14 for Sativas ?

I heard that after 8 weeks in flower it helps to switch to 10-14 ? Supposedly helps to finish sativas or mostly sativas ?

I've been on weed forums for a while and this is the first I've heard of it....

Can anyone chime in here ?

i've heard some stuff in this line, though 10/14 sounds extreme
12.5/11.5 i've seen, also 11/13
not a sativa expert, got an unexpected sativa dom that's going to go 20+ weeks
but 18 weeks is quoted for a number of sativa's, some hazes i think
but a lot of sativa's are sativa/indica hybrids, and it's hard to draw the line at times

I had to go 11/13 with my Mexican plants as they were not tripping on 12/12

hmmm...I'm still on the fence...I thought she slowed down expanding for a few days...But I laid off the nutes for a watering, and she bounced right back, and is swelling yet again.....

yes i am, but i think good indoor growing sativa's appeal across the national lines
i look at them as the next growing frontier, see a good number of not too happy sativa grows
maybe it's just being used to hybrid results

So you go from 24/0 to 11/13 the whole grow. I have a tangerine dream that will be flowering in about 10 wks( just a seedling now) I have never grown a sativa. Does the different light schedule help them finish faster?

stick to 12/12, keeps the buds dense, they won't finish noticeably faster.
I love sativas, mainly grow landrace south american strains

yes, they finish a little faster and yield may be slightly affected. some landrace wont flower until 10/14 light schedule.

what landrace would that be? straight at the equator it's 12/12 and they go by age, some will continuously flower and ripen at different times. as you move away from the equator it's back to the natural order of things, with seasons and such. where I am our shortest day is 10/14
nowhere in the world do you need less than 12. they will all flower on it


up until maybe 3 years ago I had only grown landrace south/central american sativas. some of my columbians will go 24+ weeks.
naturally I've tried to find ways to shorten flower.. For my plants I've found below 8hrs of day,hairs receded and buds stopped developing.. ended up harvesting pretty much the same time doing 10-9 hrs as 11 but reduced yield and airy.. at 11 hr's my plants finished 1 week early. still harvested at 17 weeks soooo not too noticeable.....I would keep the quality and density up and not rush it
if i let my sats get root bound that speeds flowering by 1-2 weeks and yield is reduced slightly but bag appeal is still there

From personal experience... in northern thailand there is 11 hours of daylight and 13 darkness from November through January. It's recommended to flower thai at less than 12 hours of light

here is an excerpt from summary of Highland Thai:
"A great breeding tool,rooted cuttings can be flowered strait away a will produce a managable sized pure sativa at just under a meter tall,flowering photoperiod is best at 11 hours 30 mins for quicker bud set.These seeds are from 19.5 latitude.
Indica/Sativa %

I could kind of see if it's like a Landrace Sativa from where the actual sunlight is 10-14 but otherwise I am not so sure that 10-14 is the best thing for your plant.....

My plant is mostly Sativa - KeralaxSkunk#1....It's into the 8th week now, and I am still seeing the buds grow....She's supposed to be a 9 to 11 week strain....I am thinking maybe I will just stick to the 12-12.

UPDATE: She's at exactly 10 weeks now....the buds really are not swelling all that much anymore...But I am getting small buds growing up out the top of the buds....It seems like it is taking forever for the trichs to turn....

She is a "9 to 11 week strain"....Anyone think maybe I should drop the lights from 12-12 to 10-14 or maybe 11-13 ?

Seems like I am not seeing much for new trichs, and I am not seeing any turn amber....I also heard if you grow under cfls it can take longer for the trichs to turn ? Maybe I am just being impatient.

Bottom line is Sativas take as long as Sativas take. 12/12, 11/13, republicans/democrats, it's all the same. Not knocking the 11/13 routine, but please consider the fact Sativas just take longer. Case in point: I've had a Sativa take 5 months. 5 fucking months. In flower. Waiting patiently. They just take as long as they take and, honestly, there is no rule of thumb. Just my opinion.
