thc % and potency

So I'm a little confused by THC percentage and potency/effect. I see strains that are 20% or higher and then I see something like Jack Herer with a thc level of 12- %-14%, yet JH is supposed to be the bomb.

From what I think I understand, this higher the THC content in indicas the more sedating it will be and the more couch lock/body high is achieved. With sativa, the THC content will generally be lower, but the higher THC content the more head high will be achieved.

Does this mean that the THC in indicas are different than in sativas or are there other chemicals in cannabis plants that have an affect?

I always thought terminology should be that sativa gets you high aend indica gets you stoned. If you have two plants in either category of equal thc, will the effect differ because of other substances in the plants? Is it possible for a strain with lower THC to be much stronger than a strain with higher THC?

I think we are still discovering how THC and other cannabinoids interact with one another. Certainly there is a correlation with high THC and potency, but it may not be the end all be all

You are forgetting cannabinoids, Those along with THC are the most important chems in pot. They will influence the uptake of the THC, so a plant with low cannabinoids will allow more THC to have an effect. That is what is up. Low C + more THC effects. Peace

That makes more sense. Maybe someday c-levels can be measured for more accurate potency/effect levels. Right now someone can say "super silver haze is the strongest out there" but what other strains has that person tried...or even what their tolerance level is. Plus a thousand other variables but I guess it would be that way for a hamburger as much as it would be for a strain. Personal preference and reviews. BTW, SSH is probably the strongest I've had out of 25 or 30 strains I've had my hands on.

I often smoke buds that aren't overly potent but have such a good buzz type that it is in many ways better than the potent.
I generally judge more on buzz type and longevity over straight up how hard it hits me between the eyes. That is all about cannabinoids.

Funny you saying that, ive smoked weed for around 20 years an hundreds of different strains, have a very high tolerance and SSH to this day is still my Nemesis, still batters the living fuck out of me, only strain ive ever smoked i physically cannot build up a tolerance to, whether i smoke 1 or 1000 joints of the stuff still fucks me up just as bad everytime

The terpenes are your friend and effect the high. They interact with the other cannabinoids to produce the effect of the high. This is why a lower thc sativa can get you way more wrecked then a high THC variety.

I've never known Jack Herer to be only 12%. I've grown it and crosses of it and its always potent. Check my avatar. But you may like what others around you dont. Take for instance..me and the misses smoked some sour diesel one night. She seemed to get buzzed and be good to go. Me on the other hand..heart started racing, broke into a sweat, face and ears turned blood red. It hit me way different than it did her.

I hear ya. It hits me like a freight train and I feel like I'm floating. Too strong to concentrate on anything during the day for me but when I want to be in the clouds...

We are way behind on testing cannabis, blame the federal government for that. However, it's not just thc that makes your high or stoned. That's why different strains affect you differently. I think sativex is only thc and doesn't work the same as cannabis. From what I've read on here, never tried it.

I appreciate all the feedback. This is exactly what I was hoping to find out.

I was able to go to dispensery for the first time the other day. Trying to sort through all the strains to figure out what I wanted was a little overwhelming but I started off good with green crack for daytime and blackberry kush for sinking into my recliner. Also have lemon diesel... like the flavor but I have to double-up to get me where I want. Not very strong.

Yeah, in the early 70s they had done some research and discovered its medical benefits, but it was shut down pretty quick.

I tried it. Not at all like cannabis, not even really enjoyable. Interesting stuff which has been peer reviewed has came out of Israel, some good European papers have showed some cool aspects of cannabinoids as well.

I think too much is put in to THC content and percentages. Cannabis has many more cannabinoids that I am sure effect the buzz quality. I think the Delta 9 THC was just the first identified. I may be wrong on that but hell people were talking about THC in the 80's! Now as this thing has expanded and more research is being done, we can see its a lot more to it than that! Ever heard of THCV, or CBD, or CBG? These compounds are very helpful when looking for a specific type of effect, especially from a medical sense ( Charlotte's Web)

Thanks for the info. I knew about CBDs but not the others.

I think most know that there's a different high when vaping than smoking. I know that there are chemicals and poisons that effect the high when combusted, but do we know if THCVs, CBDs, etc...get evaporated at the same (or lower) temperatures as THC? Or are some of those lost as a result of not combusting?

Just rambling now :-)

Nah JSB, you are on point. Vapping is different than normal combustion. I still want a vap but really can't settle on the "perfect" model. I did like Pax but found it gets dirty really quickly and while I clean my glass on the regular and rotate pieces, I don't want to have to clean something after 4 uses.

Always something to clean unless you're Rollin Js or getting a volcano.

I've had my arizer extreme for 6 years now and still love it. Once a week I shake the glass parts in alcohol and kosher salt and its brand new.

I go back and forth with deciding to get a volcano but I don't think I'd gain anything. I have it down to a science with the loading the right amount and dialing in the temps. I can make an oz last a month and I hit it 5-7 times a day. Just don't think I would gain any more of a high. Everyone who has one loves them though.
