AIR POTS AND WATERING Q&A

Hello RIU,

I just received my six 2 gallon (holds 1.2 gallons of soil) and had a few questions for those of you who have experience, have used them before, or just can share their opinions. O.K. my setup first... Solar Storm 440, 3x2 grow tent, medium is 60% Happy Frog Soil and 40% perlite, autoflowers and airpots. Here are the questions I have... 1. This is the most important. Can you over water using air pots? 2. On average how often will this medium dry out and need to be watered? 3. Nute schedule using airpots (every watering, every second watering every third).

Im a noob with this only my second grow. My first was dwc but decided to give soil a try this run. Will probably switch back n forth in the future. So any help anyone here may give will be greatly appreciated... Enjoy and blaze one while you read this... lol...

with happy frog, you probably don't need quite so much perlite, but it won't hurt, just may increase your watering intervals, short answer would be NO, you can't overwater, put them on trays/saucers/etc, and make sure they don't SIT in the water, you want them on something that raises it off the drainage area. I also have good results from watering the pot itself, on the outside, the smart pot almost drains too easily, which is why i'd suggest a little less perlite. Just thoroughly water them and make sure there are no dry pockets and you'll be fine.

Hey thanks Greasemonkeymann for the reassurance.Fortunately mine wont be sitting in in water at all. It has about a 2 inch lip at the bottom so it can drain easily and wont be sitting in water. "GREASEMONKEY"... interesting name. Are you a mechanic or is it the name of one of your favorite exotic strains?

Thanks Canna Cole for the response. Ive heard the same thing but wasn't quite sure if it was true or why. Do you know why theyre so hard to over water?
The holes all around the pot allow for faster evaporation of water. So with airpots you might find yourself watering more.

nah, i'm an auto tech/smog tech/shop owner.
That'd be an interesting name for a strain, like maybe for a greasy hash-plant or something.
Man, I haven't had a good hashplant in YEARS, I think I tried a good one about 10-12 yrs ago, I remember it being too strong for my then-girlfriend....haha she'd ask me before smoking "this isn't the hashplant, right?"

Hey man I litterally have the EXACT same setup..... To the T! During veg I need to water every third day, and in flower i water every other day. Its really hard to over water them, but just lift the pot after you water it, and then again in a day and you will be able to tell real quick when they are thirsty!

Lol... That's funny as hell cause my girl cant handle very potent strains either... She starts off with a mild paranoia, then sort of panicky, then right to sleep... lmao... Believe it or not ive never tried hash or a hash plant cross. maybe that's something I should look into next. Thinking about ditching the autos and do a photo strain. Decisions, Decisions... Maybe Ill put a quick order in to the tude and pick up a few good strains. Any recommendations?

Cool bro... How many plants do you usually grow in your 3x2 tent under this light? What size air pots?

I'm flattered you asked my opinion on it, but I mostly do clones, I live in the santa cruz area so I have access to the SF, Oakland (oaksterdam), san jose, Monterey clubs, so the clones here are REALLY high quality.
I'm trying some new (seeded) strains now, but haven't finished them, so I can't help much. in about two months I'll know a lot more.
I'm doing the 3 sannie sugarpunch, 2 mad scientist X jackberry hybrid,1 cbd shark, and 1 cbd kali, two fruity chronic juices, and then i'm doing some new clone strains two, cheesequake, grand ak, and the agent orange. Most of the seeds are freebies, with the exception of the sugarpunch.

Wow I only heard of a couple of those: the fruity chronic juice and the agent orange. But the mad scientist cross sounds MADD... Hope to give that a try one day. Plus I bet living in Cali is pretty cool when it comes to hobby. Im from Cleveland, Ohio but currently living in Texas. Cleveland is lenient on the hobby (not as cool as Cali) but Texas is one of the worse. One day I hope to move to Colorado or Washington state to practice freely. Im a construction worker so don't know how much work is actually there for my trade. Hopefully something will open up.

I think in probably the next couple years your options will open a lil too, they are seeing the HUGE amounts of tax money that Colorado is getting and the politicians are getting, um, aroused...

Just dont do as I did and sit a Ap.Smart pot on top of another where when you water it,it drains to the bottom pot! I did and my plant stated looking all weird,So I took it out to find the roots had grown into the standing water
in the bottom pot.:wall:
