Is it koo to jus throw and water?

My neighbor gave me seeds and he said just throw it on the ground.. I threw like 12 all over my backyard.. There's been dead plants and weeds growing where I threw it.. Is that all bad? It's been two days and I jus threw them bitches so I don't know where I threw it.. I jus water everything.. I also have one seed that was a lil white but when I put it in the water it blackened the next day.. Is this seed good? Need max help. I live in long beach Cali nd It's June 22

Animals; birds, mice are probably going to eat them.

You can start directly in potting mix and to give them a fighting chance you should have done that, before putting them in the ground.

I got one good one in the middle of the germination stage.. Nd I dug a good spot in my backyard earlier today.. Where the sun got and everything.. Would that be at least better than what I did earlier?
