This is my second batch of butter from the same outdoor crop. Batch #1, I lost a significant amount of butter in the process. Started out with 2 lbs, 4 cups. Yielded (3/4 cup + 1 1/2 cup + 1/3 of a cup = 2.6 cups) Meaning 1.4 cups LOST!!!! Must have been lost in the straining. Too much lost!!!!!
So this time, I'm going to pour boiling water over the sludge, as well as trying to squeeze out all the butter.
Supplies:
- crock pot
- strainers of varying size
- cheesecloth
- spatula
- juice jug (for easy pouring) and containers
Ingreidents:
- 2 lbs of unsalted butter (2 cups per lb)
- boiling water
- 4 oz finely finely ground shake/ weed
In this case, the shake was from outdoor plants where the buds did not turn out super potent. This batch was a mutt, couple of different plants in it.
1. light green, dry outdoor plant.
2. dark purple, sticky outdoor plant.
Of the 4 oz of shake, half was from purple plant bud leftovers - that was first screened to make hash. The other half was a mixture of screened green plant bud leftovers, and all shake from all plants.
I melted the butter on the stove, with about 1.5 L of boiling water.
Then to the crocky pot:
After 24 hours, the water mostly boiled off.
Then the straining. This is a super sludgie batch, because it's shake. Messy process.
First I did it my normal way, by straining.
But this time, unlike my previous butters, I poured boiling water all over the sludge at the end, to get all the butter remnants off of everything.
I am sure I yielded more butter this time than the last, so yay!!!!
Almost done!!!
About 36 hours after I started!
Last batch, yielded 2 full batches of cookies (3/4 cup butter in one, and 1 1/2 cup butter in the other) with a 1/3 cup leftover for a mini batch.
Once I finish draining, I'll know the yield on this one. But eyeballing, it's more than last time for sure!
