im out of 200 proof and out of money, got a bunch of good but greasy sap in need of a winterization, ive used everclear 151 and it worked, just lost terps, i have bacardi 151 will it work as well as the everclear did?
You could use any of the alcohols or acetone.im out of 200 proof and out of money, got a bunch of good but greasy sap in need of a winterization, ive used everclear 151 and it worked, just lost terps, i have bacardi 151 will it work as well as the everclear did?
Yea but it would probably be more economical to buy denatured alcohol by the gallon and remove the contaminants with activated carbon.any way to buy shitty vodka and distill pure alcohol from it?
Idk it stands to reason that if the solvent is more polar more waxes would drop out when the solution is chilled.Pretty sure you want higher percentage alcohol and not adding water. That's why its recommended to use 190 proof instead of 151 proof. I use 99% ISO to winterize.
The water can be removed prior to evaporation by adding a drying agent to the mixture which is later filtered using coffee filters or syringe filters.i prefer no water in my oil or wax, ill just save up for the grape spirits and a lil reclaim
That method won't remove chlorophyll, it will however remove more of the non polar waxes.i love science and get what ur saying. but adding extra steps is just not needed. if my oil came out loaded with chlorophyll im trying that method for sure. or researching something like that...
I agree that its recommended to extract with 99%, but when it comes to winterization it makes more sense to use 70% because the change in polarity allows more waxes to drop out.Pretty sure you want higher percentage alcohol and not adding water. thank you blunter for being proactiveI think 99% is usually recommended over anything else because it doesn't leave water upon evaporation like 70% does. Not because it helps drop out the waxes any better, as far as I know there hasn't been a thread dedicated to a side by side comparison of each procedure so I may as well do one.
I figure, I've got the material right now, so why notthank you blunter for being proactive
