LED's and Nutrients

Information on LED lighting says to increase amount of Cal/Mag. I'm having problems with nutrient lock out. I think it's due to the amount of Cal/Mag. Any info on nutrient problems with LED's would be appreciated.

If you have lockout, you can foliar feed until you get the soil condition fixed (assuming you're in soil). If you have too much cal/mag, you can flush with 3x the volume of your container. I had a really bad acidic lockout and foliar fed for 2 weeks while fixing the soil. That plant went on to give me 120g. (However, I'm in a dry location. If you're in a humid location, you'll need to take bud rot into consideration. Either don't foliar feed, or use fans to help dry the plant.).

Are you sure it's not a ph problem? Have you checked the ph of your runoff (assuming you're in soil).

I started doing what's in the following two links. It made a huge improvement in my calmag def:

Hey az, I found this one too.
Yes, I'm in soil. Flushing three times is not an option. No water or drains. I've tried before. There are 24 plants in 5gal pots.
PH is fine, they grow real lush for the first 4-5 weeks. I let them feed off the Ocean Forest during that time. As soon as I start feeding them the bottom leaves turn yellow and die. It seems to affect fan leaves only so far. It works it's way up the plant and they get stunted. I reduced nutes by 1/2 as recommended by manufacturer and increased the cal mag.

Thanks for the response bud man. Is that just on LED's and not on HPS?
Yellowing leaves at the bottom and working there way up is a Nitrogen issue, the plants are hungry so feed them grow nutes( higher N) , feed schedules are dumb, feed the plant and it has no choice but to produce. Calcium issues will be rusty splotches, mag will be yellowing outside and working in, nitrogen is a uniform fade to yellow working its way up. Good led's provide a better spectrum than HID so will generally feed more, not just cal & mag

Thank you. That's very reassuring. I jacked up the nutes by double today. Got some high first number bat guano coming to give them a boost. I've read that a nitrogen deficiency can stunt a plant. They've been showing problems for about 2 weeks now. I'm thinking of just scrapping this grow and start over. Any suggestions?
Nice to hear something on the subject. There's not much current info out there yet. The manufacturer recommended reducing the nutrients by 1/3-1/2. But what you said about them feeding more because of the improved spectrum seems like common sense.

Why ? Feed more N and they should recover. Worst case scenario they could herm and you get seeded bud, its better than nothin. Chalk it up to experience and understand blooming plants still need a ton of N. Lesson learned. Fix it and hope for the best, you should be fine other rhan a lower yield

LOL

Not all (very few actually) leds are good for growing mj

so first it would depend on whether the led you have is of the r/b variety, or muitichip variety,y or a combination of white diodes mixed with r/b, which is the ideal led

Lesser led lights/panels will cause health issues for mj

I use Hydroponic Research V+B and have zero plant health issues

OK, so I'm in the very early stages of trying something new, 18 days ago I planted 1 seed in a mixture of coco fiber and chicken shit from my back yard and am using 1 10 watt LED outdoor security lamp. The results so far are amazing.
All that's from just (1) 10 watt led that's looking good, nice job

10w at this early veg stage is fine, but soon the plant will double in size requiring a lot more light to fuel its' growth

Yes just LED, it is to do with certain nanometer spectrum in LED during flowering that makes them crave calcium for some reason, most in the LED section on RIU supplement calmag for this reason.

I'm running 6 10wattt LEDs over 9ak47 plants, they use less power than the CFL's, and I seem to be getting good healthy growth from them. I also mixed chicken shit from my back yard with coco river about 10 parts coco to 1 part chicken shit, that's all the nutrients I use, water them every 3 days. Will post new photo of my peppermint kush plant later, see how much its grown in 3 days.
