Odor Control in a Large Grow Room??

Hi

'Friend" has a pretty decent setup in an 18' x 12' Sealed flowering room. Perpetual so only 1/3 of the room ever at peak potency at one time. Have a 4ft x12" MountainAir carbon filter and a 1050cfm 12" fan running 24/7 in this sealed grow room. However the smell still seems to be getting out.

What is the next step to ensure no smell? Buy another filter and fan?If so, how big? Or invest in ONA gel and fan? I've never used ONA and see they have the gel/fan setups, but read multiple places not to run them in the grow room itself.

Thoughts appreciated

Thanks

I think you will have better luck running two of those filters. I had a 10x10 space and used 2 filters that CFM togeather was much greater (~2x) the fan and had good results, not much smell leak. I find its best to not even come close to the CFM of the filter. Depending on your temps ur fan can probably still work just fine if u put a T and run two lines to two filters, depending how your vent works. I had the filters in the room, not sure what u have setup.

Also make sure you have constant negative pressure, smell may be leaking through your intake, it needs to all be going through the filters.

Yeah, filter rated at 1200cfm I'm running 1050. May add a second one. You saying i could run 2 off same fan? Its a sealed room tho so no intake or exhaust. May not be 100% sealed which is how smells getting out, through the cracks...dont mind air leaking out as long as it doesnt smell lol

So you never allow air into or out of the room just the lights?
Not even lights, using open reflectors. Ac keeps it cool. CO2 is burned when needed. Plants use co2 and "exhale" oxygen. You normally bring air in to give them more CO2. Having a burner takes away the need for an air exhange as you are refilling the CO2 by using the burner.Look up Closed Growing Environment

I got a big blue 6" ozone gen. Run 600cfm (2 port a/c) exhaust threw it .Works pretty good. But ill be buying another fresh 4ft filter and 2 fans to help kill the ozone and more smell this time. And some ona in a couple diff spots.

I misunderstood your setup. With your setup you should never have a smell problem. You def have air leaks or the carbon filter needs to be replaced. U should not be running into smell problems that scrubber should be VERY effective n that room running 24/7. How long has the filter been used? How often do you enter the room?

Enter once or twice a day. Sometimes door is open for a few minutes, but when its closed cant be leaking too bad as I'm not going through co2 that quickly. Do u think adding another filter would help? I just put the glade oil air fresheners outside the room lol

You need 2 of the 5 foot filters for that room. And sometimes a 12 inch fan is too much cfm for those filters . Maybe get a controller and slow it down. Smell the air coming out the fan, if it smells like weed AT ALL .. You got to slow cfm or replace filter. I use 2 of them with 8 inch inlines on them in a 18x20 room. Hope this helps. Ona works good but use it outside the room don't put it in with the plants . Good luck

Well filters brand recommends minimum cfm of 1200 n mine is 1050cfm, would you still slow it down? Guessing ur reducing it to get 8" fan on there...

If your running a sealed room make sure it's actually SEALED...............Running a filter within a sealed room is not only counterproductive, it's also wasting $$$ on the filter and electricity.

If you can't seal it properly than just run a TRUE exhaust/scrubber setup and the smell will be a non-issue.........No point in wanting a CO2 crop boost when you can lose ALL of it due to the odor.

good luck grower and be safe

There are def slight leaks but not so much that im losing co2 fast. Its kinda a room built in a room would it be better than to leave scrubber outside the door? And maybe some ona outside?

Yes I would still slow it down. If your weed is super stinky it doesn't matter what it recommends.. if you smell weed out the top of it, it is sucking the air to fast to fully filter out the stink. Your air might be coming out clean, but smell is what were worried about. I have 12, 10 , and 8 inch fans and I prefer to use the 8 inch on my 5 foot filters. And I don't have smell problems. Regardless of how you want to do it, you need to add another filter in that size of a room if you want to fully remove smell problems . In my last room I didn't have enough room for a second filter so I put on the 8 inch ran rather than the 12 and it helped. You could always get an ozone gen for the outer part of your box, I got one for sale lol. Good luck

Ya don't wanna kill myself with ozone generator lol. Dont really have room nor do I want to spend another 400+ for another filter, so for now will try turning fan down and may make one of those DIY odor killers for outside the door (5 gallon bucket, ONA gel and a fan) ....

Dont have ona blowing in your room. My buddy ruined his whole last run, and his hash, gives you a headache.. It smells bomb... With a large hint of laundry detergent/ona smell . Use ona on the outside of the room. Ozone generator works great if you set it to run 5 mins every 40 mins. And it's very small. They run them in hospitals to kill the germs , so I don't think it's going to kill you. You can always hang a filter if you have the means for that eventually . The fan controllers are cheap just turn that one down to 75%. I hope it helps good luck
