Organic nutes for DWC...

Think of converting to DWC..

Would like to use organic nutes if possible...I have grow organically in soil enjoyed the result...

So is it possible to make your own nutes with teas ETC...without adversely affecting the plant...

Care to explain what point exactly? it was a simple question of whether it was possible to avoid chemical ferts in the system...

I've heard of making worm casting tea by putting the castings in a bucket of water and bubbling air through it for a few days. Never tried it though.

Ive made teas before... and used them in soil....I was curious whether this method could be applied to DWC

you will be in for a rough ride. Make sure you read that heisenburg tea method before you start or I guarantee you will get slimed!

I want to do the same thing the guys at my hydro shop recommended advanced nutrients Iguana Juice but I haven't done it yet going to pop my seeds in a few days

I've got a great organic solution for DWC.

Calcium nitrate, potassium nitrate, monopotassium phosphate, magnesium sulfate, and organic chelated iron.

I promise you it's organic.

The problem with organics in DWC is two fold.

1) it's near impossible to get enough calcium in the water without calcium nitrate
2) it's near impossible to get enough nitrate in the water without calcium nitrate.

When N is provided as urea or ammonia, it needs nitrifying bacteria to convert it first into nitrite, then nitrate for optimal uptake. This doesn't really work in water, and needs a medium. In soil, the bacteria regulate the level of nitrate, and pulls the lime into the water slowly for uptake.

In a DWC environment, it's ideal that N be supplied mostly as nitrate, with urea and ammonia being avoided.

Plants need chemicals to live gold star for junior... doesn't mean they need to be synthetic... SMH

Yeah, I bet he did.

He most certainly did... and gotta tell you not happy at all so far it's just gunky slimy shit in my res so I retract my statement and now say it's probably a bad idea to use iguana juice... it's not terrible but it's going to be an issue in the future this pic is after like 36 hours

I too have often wondered why nobody has done organic nutes for DWC ....but that said in DWC you have greater control of what you feed the plant than you do in soil, but soil is my thing ...and better taste too ...lol

yes its possible (bioponics) but perhaps more trouble than its worth

what benefits were you hoping to achieve by converting from soil based medium to hydroponics ?
