What's up RIU, quick question, will using food coloring do ANYTHING for your plants?? My future son- n-law ( lord help me)..lol.. Claims it adds color to the bud making it more desirable.. Idk what's wrong with it's natural color but that's just me..lol.. Any thoughts? Thanks..

You better hope its a beta marriage becuase it sounds like you are getting ready to water down the gene pool lol. To keep it short, wont do a thing accept maybe make your soil pretty colors. They already put enough dyes in ferts, no need to add more :D

now you can GET different colored phenotypes and you can force a plant to turn purple with lowering the temps at night. i turn it down to 50-60 at night for last 2-3 weeks in flower and they will be purple buds when its harvest time. ive seen a few different colors so far.

Food coloring ......... is a very generic term it could eazly mean different things to different people

Store bought stuff, and the original stuff(s)

It's not exactly far fetched to believe something could have a effect of the collor

It looks pretty with carnations cuz they start out pretty much white. Even if the coloring would uptake into the buds, they are starting out as green, so most any color you add to them would turn them... brown. I learned that with crayons when I was young. Dunno if brown would really be an improvement, even if it did work. That being said, if you can make some trippy tie die buds, maybe something that glows under blacklights.... I mean, they made glow in the dark pigs right? I vote that everyone begins experimenting with this at once! A thousand duckets to the man or woman who can get me some glow in the dark smoke, I want to be a green fire breathing dragon in the darkness and now I really have my heart set on it

Yes, that can and does help express the coloring.
You can further express a given strains color "trait" by adding 0-0-3 of K during flower with no ill effect. I actually feel it helps the end bud density also. This effect by this method tends to come out later in bloom, so be patient.

Some might remember that Fdd decided to do an experiment based on a similar question. He harvested his plants and put some branches with the stems in a jug with food colouring. the buds did actually take up the colour of the water, but when he smoked it he said it was god awful.
