Cool Cab SCROG & Cloning?

Hello all! I'm a newbie here but have been in this market for many of years. I just got the cool cab set-up and was wondering about a few things. Hope some peeps can help me out.

#1 - I was thinking to do a SCROG to minimize the number of plants for the obvious reasons. Has anyone tried to do this with good or bad success with cool cab or mini- cool cab? Any feedback would be great.

#2 - I know how to clone and thats not the issue. How long can a clone stay a clone before I have to plant and start veg cycle?

Well I have the larger cool cab and could really only do 5 decent plants in there. I woudn't recomend any more than that.
As for the Clones, when I see roots it is ready to go in the net pots.

I was only planning on doing 5 or less. How to you plant the clone if your mid way thru a flowering cycle? Do you just skip the veg cycle completely?

Thanks. I was wondering if we could exchange personal info. so we can discuss gardening since we have same unit. I got mine last month and have not set up yet. Not sure if I can give you my e-mail and I can't private message you 4 some reason. I'm from USA but will be traveling to Calgary for next few years for work. I would love to discuss set-up or areas that you might think I need to watch or improve on. Pretty please!!!!

I have some great seeds to start with:

1. Greenhouse Seeds - Hawiaan Snow & Train Wreck both Feminized
2. Lowryder AK47 Autoflower Fem.
3. DNA Genetics Chocolope Fem
4. Barneys Farm Blue Cheese Feminized
5. G13 Labs Ice & Power Skunk Reg. seeds

In your own opinion should I start with the free seeds of G13 to get the hang of the unit and nutes before I jump into the GOODS!!!!

Other questions about planting 3 to 4 diff. strains at the same time if they have same or similar flowering cycles? I want to keep a variety then switch to clones to keep this cycle current.

Many other questions that I have ......

Hey Reef,

I have grown before but never Hydro or stealth. I'm familiar with all the basics sexing, curing, topping, lights and etc....

I will start journal once I get back Mid Aug. and start cool cab. Excited.

shit then hydro is a walk in the park.... easy.. i would just recommend a water change every week... no matter how much a pain in the ass it is.... i use RO water (perfectly balanced)... get a ppm meter for sure (a must) and only go with about a 1/4 of the recommended nutes.... you'll love love love hydro... when i made the switch i never wanted to go back to soil.....

anyhow, good luck on your 1st run......

1. Would you add any more lights to set-up? Came w/ 400W HPS & MH and was thinking of adding some flourescent to the inner side to cover light for lower nodes and growth. Whats you opinion?

2. I'm using all Botanicare Hydro products, what's you take ans do I need anything else like a foilage spray etc....:

Pure Blend Pro Grow & Bloom
Liquid Karma
Cal MAg Plus
Clearex
Silica Blast
Grotek Monster Bloom

3. Do you start seedlings conventional or the way cool cab tells you? What do you prefer?

4. How long u running your veg. cycle under MH after transplant to net pots?

5. Any add's that are a must for complete and operational sevice?

6. Just climate controlled garage for site so should be ok to maintain outside temps. Any use for a dehumidifier during summer months?

7. What has been you pattern for adding NUTES after fresh mix or add?

8. Are you drying and curing as described for unit? I don't plan to.

9. How do you handle top heavy plants? Trellis set-up or what?

10. How tall are your plants getting on average after harvest?

11. Are you topping plants or using stunt growth formula? Single large colas or many little brancehes....

12. Any light infiltration from unit? Can u see light from outside cabinet?

13. How and where you venting exhaust air?

Reef,

You say to use 1/2 or 1/4 of NUTES, is this for entire cycle? Why wouldn't I follow charts per website or info on gallons?

well to answer your question for chi and im sure she would agree, your 400's will be fine... i use a t5 for veg (which is alot less than your 400), and a 1000 for bloom. if u ever wanted, upgrade to a 600 for your bloom, but your 400 will carry you thru...

the reason i personally use 1/4 amount is when i have tried full strength i nute burned my plants and its very hard to recover from that.. so i err on caution and a friend of mine a long time ago recommended about 1/4-1/2 the recommended... yes i start with 1/4 and work up to 1/2 for the entire cycle(s)

i think it will be more of trial and error for ya....

oh yeah, 1 other thing... where the water is exposed (if using ebb and flow), see if you can cover that, either with the manufacturers cover ( i use a botanicaire system) and i had to buy it seperately... this will slow down the alage growth... but regular water changes helps alot with that....

so what i do now is measure often, err on caution and change water weekly.. RO is awesome.. if you use tap, buy some hydrogaurd...

**No need to add more light, there just is no more room in there.

2. I'm using all Botanicare Hydro products, what's you take ans do I need anything else like a foilage spray etc....:

Pure Blend Pro Grow & Bloom
Liquid Karma
Cal MAg Plus
Clearex
Silica Blast
Grotek Monster Bloom

***These are all good, use them as directed.

3. Do you start seedlings conventional or the way cool cab tells you? What do you prefer?

***I germinate my seeds in moist paprertowel, then into rockwool under a flouro unitl rooted then in the net pots.

4. How long u running your veg. cycle under MH after transplant to net pots?

***Maybe a month depending on growth.

5. Any add's that are a must for complete and operational sevice?

**I switched to clear nutes to prevent the clogged lines.

6. Just climate controlled garage for site so should be ok to maintain outside temps. Any use for a dehumidifier during summer months?

**In the summer I use it in my garage. Winter in the basement.

7. What has been you pattern for adding NUTES after fresh mix or add?

***I mix up a large pail 20litres with water and add my nutes in there, ph it and just add that mix when needed to maintain a constant level.

8. Are you drying and curing as described for unit? I don't plan to.

***you can dry in it, however it is a faster dry so be careful not to dry too fast.

9. How do you handle top heavy plants? Trellis set-up or what?

***I top them, or if not have had to tie them to the top of the inside cabinet.

10. How tall are your plants getting on average after harvest?

**depends if you top them or not. If sativas they get tall and can outgrow the cabinet. I top them.

11. Are you topping plants or using stunt growth formula? Single large colas or many little brancehes....

12. Any light infiltration from unit? Can u see light from outside cabinet?

**I taped the inside seems with duct tape to prevent this.

13. How and where you venting exhaust air?[/

**In the garage I just vent with the filter on it, in basment I have exhaust out the window.

I hope I answered them all, lol. Good luck.:peace:

Chi,

Thanks a bunch for taking the time to answer these questions.

When you said you use clear Nutes to help prevent clogging, what brand? Is what I have clear enough? I read in high times that Humbolt County had some killer NUTES on market. Have you heard or tried them?

I use DNF (Dutch Nutrient Formula) or Optimum.

a cheap roll of velcro from your local nursery is handy too..

Chi & Reef,

How many times can you top your plants with only 5 growing per session? Do you fim your plants? Not sure if fim is the correct word for it.

well i like to top my plants only once (2-colas), it keeps the height down and i still get a couple very nice colas.. if i top more than that my colas get much smaller each time....

i'm not quite sure what "fim" is?????

amd as for nutes i prefer BC products, but there's plenty of good stuff out there...
