Can I get any significant yield from this DWC grow? (PICS)

Hi everyone, I'm a long time lurker here on RIU but this is my very first post,

I pulled the trigger and invested in a decent DWC setup with 600w HPS, 5 gallon buckets, airpump, massive airstones for each bucket and AN nutes, my tent size is 4x4x6.5

I grew only once before on soil, outside and that was without any LST or topping but I decided to try topping and trimming this time with my new DWC setup as they significantly increase the yields.


I put my feminized seeds in water on Aug 15(almost 4 weeks ago) and moved them to buckets 10 days later(3 plants). The light was on 24/0, which I think helped a lot to make them short, the tent temp stayed at the optimum range(75F) and the girls amazed me every morning with their speed in such short period (2 Chemdog - GHS and 1 Purple Bud - Sensi), then I decided it was time to top and trim them at the 4th node. However I made a terrible noob mistake and cut all the branches below the 4th node.

Here is a pic of one of the plants when it was healthy and bushy just before the massacre I did 4 weeks from seed),

Here is the root mass of one of the Chems, the other two have similar root mass.

And after topping at the 4th node and removing all of the lower branches below the 4th node.


The girls haven't shown much growth after 48 hours have passed, maybe the leafs got little bit bigger. I plan to switch the light to 20/4 tonight to help them stretch so I can train them.

Folks, my stomach hurts a bit since I may have killed the healthiest looking plants I have ever grown. I'm asking for your opinion, can I expect any significant yield from this grow or should I just go ahead and chop 'em and start a new journey with new seeds?? Or should I go ahead and try to apply Nugbucket's Main-lining method(or fluxing maybe?) as my plants look very similar to his system(they are one node above from his suggestion), at this point?

haha chalk it up to stoned mistake. weve all done it, now you have to be patient. you have decent rootmass going, but little to none Biomass or leaf to process the light. until you get more sets, youre just whistling dixie.

cut back on the ferts, its gonna be 4-6 weeks AT LEAST before they get going.

PATIENCE- and you will never make that mistake again right?

Sucks bet you wish they were like this asap

Although nugbuckets does remove alot of growth the key to mainlining is to kill growth tips you don't need and let the plant stay healthy.

By get going you mean switch to flower right?
Also do you think I can still get more yield by sticking with this grow than an untouched plant?

I am still in between of planting new seeds and try to forget about this mistake, but if I can get more yield than an untouched, single cola plant, I might just try to make this plant flourish, since both will take around the same time.

You can still get a good yield from them for example in my photo I have 2 plants they are 9 days apart.
The 8 top mainlined OG kush is 58 days the sensi star behind it is 49 and she was a runt so I didn't main line just fimm cuts. Mainline plants can take 80 days to reach 20 inches inside a hoop.

soon you will see you didnt completely fudge it up.

by get going I mean start to take off veg wise. you left 2 little nodes, in ten days they will be twin tops.

dont look so far ahead, you have to learn these baby steps first. yield is out of the question at this point, but it will be two tops if you left as is.

The reason nug says the third node is because the growth tips should be fully developed when it's topped. From the pics I see small growth but they will bounce back I have seen some crazy shit from my tops. Don't get discouraged you can still go for 4 tops easy

and your plants looked good, and you cut off 75% of the harvest. you might be reading too much. just grow em!

I'd keep it going. My first DWC run I got horrible root rot (Pythium) when my plant was a bit larger than yours. Instead of trashing it I used scissors and cut ALL of the roots off around the netpot then put it back in after fully serializing my gear. It took a while to get going again and my yield was somewhat less than a plant of equal age but it was some fire. These plants are resilient, let her live.

You added a lot of veg time, but those will be some crazy plants in flower trust me . Maybe it's just me but it seems like the more stressed and crappy the clone is that I start, the crazier the growth in flower, granted you keep parameters right in flower and fixed whatever stressed them.

Thanks guys for your inputs, I cut the nutes back and the girls seem to be recovering well. I will keep this thread updated with pics when there is some growth.

1st Update (4 days later)
The girls are recovering well. As Elvis said, I'm starting to realize I didn't completely fudge up. I switched to 20/4 and cut back on nutes, no problems so far, new mains are building up nicely but they still need some time for training as the stems on them are still short.


Any thoughts?
