So I'm on my second grow and both times my finished product is too dry and really has not got a good smell buds look amazing tho, I dry until the stem snaps and then burp my jars once a day for a few min, I'm in the desert so humidity is on the low end not sure about in the jars but my tent is pretty steady at 45% any help would be appreciated

Yep, sounds like you are drying too long, or maybe even too fast in that dry desert air. You can burp if ya want, but check into Boveda packs. I dry for 2-3 days (like 60-70% rh here) and into jars with a 62% boveda pack (2 packs, if the jar is almost full) and check for mold after a week, or so, (from the outside of the jars, don't have to open). If you did a decent job inspecting and drying, you shouldn't find any mold. Then just let them cure for your normal 3-4 weeks. I put the jars back in their boxes and stack 'em. No need to burp. It may even be a bad idea to burp, as it lets in non-62% rh air. Sort of defeating the purpose of the humidity packs. Did this with over a pound last grow, and it was an extremely smooth cure. Good smell, taste and little to no harshness :weed:

You can check the Harvesting and Curing forum too. Lots of informative posts and stickies there :hump:

Good Luck :peace:

I'm in Colorado, which is pretty dry too, and in my experience, things are just about perfect after about 3 days or so (depending on whether there's wetter weather ), once the stems bend, not snap, and the buds feel crispy on the outside, but still a bit moist on the inside. In any event, it's an art, not a science, so it'll take a few tries to get it just right!

Cheers!

No need for them as long as u don't let them dry out as much only dry untile the stems r bendy [not snapping]then into jars open twice a day for a couple of weeks then its perfectly smokable even smooth...thats wots just worked perfectly for me ...keep them in a cool dark place and u should have no probs...dont get me wrong the longer the cure the better its all down to preferrence....
