An interesting situation

I decided to test different growing mediums outdoors and this is the result.

Various mixes of perlite, dolomite lime, american plant organic potting soil, dr. earth seedling mix, espoma seedling mix

After 2 weeks in an enclosed room with open windows i brought about 12 seedlings outside to get more light.
Within about a minute there was a grasshopper. I sprayed him with neem but he didn't die or budge so i killed him with my finger. Then I gave each plant a bit of water and left for 2 days.
Within 2 days every single one has died except for the two that i put in a mix of 100% perlite.

Wtf?

tl;dr grasshopper is pest and should be killed.

I'm more interested to know why the plants in perlite are completely fine but every plant that was in soil died than i am in moralistic ramblings.

That is quite an interesting situation. I'm an indoor grower and haven't had to deal with grasshoppers. I wonder if it has to do with the bright color?

Could be perlite repels bugs?

Imma gonna say you didn't harden them off and they cooked in full sun. Not sure why the perlite one made it but maybe it had shade.

Not hardened of is my guess ...ive done it to my chilli seedlings before......

There's only 2 decent explanations i've been able to come up with
1. bugs
2. the moisture retention mixed with temps of 50 degrees at night caused some kind of incredibly rapid decay

something about perlite being completely inert saved the seedlings but i'm not sure what it is.

Your soil was too hot for the seedlings prolly. and yeah, fuck those hoppers!
