an all time high stock market means americans' retirement and investment portfolios are doing better than ever. over 50% of americans have and rely on them.
rising home values means the biggest purchase that 65% of americans have made are appreciating in value.
these are literally the two biggest assets that the majority of americans have, and they are doing better under obama.

Equity means stock, bond, or a cash equivalent. Do you have a 401K? Do own a single stock directly? Or do you own part of a fund? Most people that have 401Ks or Pensions do not own individual stocks or bonds they own shares of funds, those funds are invested in particular tranches of equities usually.
As to your query about who has Hundreds of thousands of dollars laying around to pay cash for his house. By his own admission, Unclebuck does, well his wife does. Either that or he was lying about it all, but Beaver boy would never lie.

If you own your house or are paying off a house, you have equity. If you own stock you have equity. Not sure what you're trying to imply when you brought up 401ks. 401ks are absolutely affected by rises and falls in the stock market. Lots of people in 2008 lost a fuckton of money in their 401ks.
