Meet Ruby

I caught a tortoise like that when I was out riding my dirt bike by Joshua Tree when I was about 13. It lived in my grandparents back yard in LA for a couple of years, I finally took him back out near where I found him and turned him lose. It was years later I found out it was an endangered desert tortoise & a federal crime to even pick one up...

I always thought the California desert tortoise was a hoax until we seen one then we started seeing them a lot in the high desert. I always wanted to get one but know it is Illegal. They say if you pick them up and they pee they will die of dehydration. I have seen a lot of people who have them in captivity. They are like a parrot and will likely out live it's captor.

Mom and dad live in SoCal and have a Desert Tortoise. She had that thing when I lived there and I'm 50 now. I moved out 32 years ago, things live forever.
