I've never really very been impressed by a Cuban. I've had some very good ones but there's something about smoking a $50+ stick and thinking it should be better that makes it very hard to enjoy the smoke. The terroir may be better for cigar tobacco in Cuba but the best cigar makers fled the revolution and there's a lot of damned good tobacco country on the other islands.

Duck, that sounds like my stock speech. Yes, the talent fled the country and then spent the next thirty years working to bring the growers up to speed, learning the characteristics of the new leaves, setting up facilities, training rollers and working out the partuculars.

Cuba just depended on their superior genetics and climate.

It didnt work. I will put a stick by oliva, llaneza or padron against all but the finest cubans.

I get a kick out of the fact that when ever i get into a conversation with a cigar newbie or even a novice i always hear about the cuban they had, usually a cohiba.

Most times they are knock offs or counterfeit. But cuban is supposed to be some sort if magic.

I just wanted to know if this guy was for real.

The only magic about it is the legal status in the US which makes them the magical forbidden fruit, Talk to smokers out of the US and they will usually tell you cubans are on par with many central america tobacco regions /conn.

As far as im concerned the best stuff in the word is hanging in my attic , and grown in my front yard

I also hapen to live in a excelent region for tobacco production , but that would likely make little difference anyway
