What type of light is this?

Just got this, my previous light was an electronic ballast, just had a MH and HPS bulb I could screw in. Just got this one. It's a 400w? MH? Will be using this for veg and flower for the time being.

Is it a reliable "name brand"? Does it have a built in cool tube, because I see fan slits on the side, but no duct openings, and there is a glass covering the bulb?

the hood is fine
the bulb well not sure what brand it is so can not tell u
as for type .........the one u were talking about is called a Dual Arc Bulb
https://www.1000bulbs.com/search?category=8483&sort=price_a&so=0

but those are a 1000w total 600w hps 400w mh for a 1000w drawl ....your hood is rated for 1000w on the side

as for cool tube no it is not .........u see the vents on the side that part should be a 6 inch hole ducting can tie too passing air over it quickly
HLRESYM2.jpg
that is a cool tube.......it is in a tube of glass with the hood built around it or it is like this a hood with sealed(nut locked) glass to the hood and a spot the 6 inch ducting can tie into

It's 400 watt MH. The 1000 watt note is referring to the max size lamp the fixture will hold. His power markings are 120volt and 4.0 amp. V X A = Watts ...so it is power usage is 480 watts at 120 v. Therefore it is a 400 watt MH. NOT a 1000 watt.

Alright thanks guys, that makes a little more sense. I checked and it is in fact a 400w bulb in there as well.

So what is the purpose of the Glass Enclosure on this light? And what is the point of the slits on the side? Does the light cool itself off?

There is a probably a 4" dia attachment that you can get (that is the 4 holes around the vent). If you added the vents and cooled the hood, then it is an air cooled hood. Not a cool "tube", but a cooled hood. Anyway...that's what's up.

Absolutely nothing wrong with Hydrofarm;-) I started out with their gear, more than 2 decades ago. Reliable, yes!

You see those 4 holes around the vent in picture 2? They secure the 4" flange(they probably still make/sell), to hook up ducting to fans. Thats all we had in the old days, if you wanted to aircool. I use to take my tin snips and modify for better air flow;-)
