For $440 on preorder I can get the a51 xgs 190. Does this sound like a worthwhile investment?

Next for me would be the onyx bloom, as I've been looking at this since they were released. I can get one of these for around $350.

Apache tech is tempting, I have the resources to just place an order, but it seems their units are about twice the cost of the other you've listed.

And as for DIY, would love to, it just takes some time, and I would need some guidance on each part to order and from where. I know all that info is posted amongst these topics and threads though. I feel that with DIY I would be getting the most out of my $, while making the highest quality light fixture specific for what I need right now?

I will come back and drop some links after this initial post:

Bad Karma was just discussing the RW-150 vs the xgs. Seems that some are getting near identical results with the RW150 due to spectrum, although that is speculation on my part at this point.

Apache is expensive yes, but worth every penny in my eyes, but GreenGenes Garden is worth visiting to really see.

Onyx, history of succesful grows, might be out-dated already.....

I just picked up two Cree CXA 3070 ab 3000K cobs. DIY. If you can build Lego's, you can build a DIY fixture.

Thanks, I'm ready to upgrade now, we're two solid weeks into flower and I'd like to get some led implemented into this run.

If you don't have time to build, I would either do A51 or do the Cree A10/BR30 "lightbulb." Depends on how tall your plants will get in that 5' tall tent. Whether you can maintain the distance to the canopy required with A51. With the Cree bulbs you can get them close and all around.

Go a51 in your case. 2 RW150's will do your space great. and save you some $$$. AT600 vs 4 a51 is where I say go AT for the difference. But anything less than a 4x4/3x6 and full height(6ft+)...a51 or diy is the way to go.

As for the RW vs XGS...I don't actually believe that they are equal, I think the XGS could pull a few more grams in a side by side. Every run done so far that I have seen has had them in the same room/tent basically touching...and over all they have gotten great results....but cross over(intensity and spectrum), sharing environment, many things helping the other side in addition to under it's own.
I would love to see them each in their own 3x3 with same clones medium/systems and vegged under one source different from the a51's.
And since I am being picky...also a different test done by vegging the same time under the XGS and RW, then flowered under each too.

The first test seeing which one just flowers better....the second determining which is the true seed to harvest champ. To me the RW and even the sgs are better simply because the veg spectrums...being able to really hit the blue. Giving better faster veg than the xgs, but similar flowering abilities. So the less wattage gets made up by the superior veg ability, then stay neck and neck during flower....that is my theory on the two.

My other theory is the foot print of the unit is more or less maxed out and the additional wattage/output is too far beyond the point of diminishing returns for spread. I see it in at200's when I crank them up(internally and against warranty...do not try at home)...not that much of a gain considering the wattage increase.

Then again I could be totally wrong too, just my thoughts/opinions on the lights.

Just a quick reply, before I can really respond thoroughly, I noticed that the 2015 a51 will have 10w cree leds. Dependant upon relase date, it may be a wise choice for me to wait for it's release? As I said, I will reply more later this evening, a good amount helpful info here. Thank you

I believe this affects you with a 5' tall space: does anyone know whether 10w requires greater distance to the canopy? Seems like it would. (If wider-angle reflectors are used, why not stay with more 5w chips?).

You'd have to wait at least a month, if not more, for the 2015 Area 51 lights to be released. According to your post, you wanted to get some LED's into your current run. Grab some RW-150's, or SGS-160's, now, while their cheap, and get ready to rock!

So, if I wanted to have fun, and diy, and invest $300-500 (I guess, or more?) into a custom LED fixture would I have cheering and support as I go for putting together one of the most epic LED Light fixtures known to exist? If I'm going to construct a fixture, it's going to be a monster. Nom nom, nom!!!

Before I hit the buy button I wanted to seek advice on these drivers from those with more knowledge than I. The plan is to use 2-HLG-185H-C1400A to run 6 3070's in series for a 6 sf flower cabinet and the one I had the hardest time finding/deciding on 1-HLG-60H-C700A to run 2 3070's in series for a 4 sf veg cabinet. But I have a couple of questions.

1. The HLG-60H-C700A, am I reading the datasheet right, this will run the 2 in series right? Or would you recommend something else?
2. To get the HLG-60H to hit 90% efficiency it looks like I need 80% or higher load. figuring load seems pretty straight forward when I look at the driver running at 700 mA. The 2 cob's should pull 68-69 vF across the series for about 69% load but how do I figure the load if the driver is turned down to say 420 mA?
3. If needed, what would you recommend to increase the load or enhance the lights of either side of this cabinet? Smaller white cob's, blues or reds or do I leave as is?
4. These drivers are both internally adjusted, the data sheet shows the HLG-60H adjusts from 420-700 mA, does this mean it is either 420 or 700 mA or is it anywhere within that range?
Just seeking advice and thanks for all the help.

Hey guys, I guess im looking for a recommend. I have always vegged under t5. However after about 18" things start getting lanky. So i'm looking for something that will give me good tight veg up to 24 inches. I will be vegging 4 plants in 10 gallon fabric pots in a 3x3 space, then moved to a 1000 watt hps vertical for flower. With my t5s and the hps im pulling roughly 1500 watts. Id like to save some money on that 500 watts of t5.

Right at the moment im looking at Advanced Platinum Series P300 or the 150. There is another user using the p300 for flower. It says 95 watts for the veg switch for a 4x4. Im thinking that space quote is proly inflated. But a 5 year warrenty. Any thoughts?

Go for an Area 51 XGS-190. I used mine to veg a 3x3 tent and had fantastic results. A51 offers a limited lifetime warranty.

While that is right at the very edge of what i would be willing to put down, i feel like im buying twice what i need. I dont need any bloom. so a 100 watt led that only had what i needed for veg would be optimal. Do the led companies not make just a veg led? or just a bloom?

Edit: for the same money wouldnt this be more optimal in my situation?

Or even this for a little cheaper/less power?

Blackstars are not a good option, they're not known for good results, or lasting very long. That model only actually pulls around 135 watts and won't cover a 3x3 area.
The Advanced LED, while a better option than the Blackstar, still isn't on the same level as Area 51. While both use Cree diodes, the XGS uses newer, more efficient, ones. So at the same price point, A51 is a much better deal, than Advanced.

what do yall think about an LED for a...
48"x48"x80" tent holding 4x plants 3'-4' tall at harvest.
lookin for a single unit that I can veg and flower with
something comparable to a 1000w hps

I've been kickin around gettin a 60"x60" tent instead.. so thats an option will any single unit fixtures cover a 5'x5' area?

open to any advice.8-)
I've never used LED, and I've had bad luck with new light tech in the past.:cuss:
That being said I will reserve judgment and find out for myself by purchasing one for an experimental tent!:bigjoint:

thx in advance!
