Sure is a lot of advice up there huh?
Personally id grow star trek, or northern lights x with anything, or cherry pie, or blueberry. Those are all pretty easy and fun starter plants. They stay shortish and they grow like production plants. Like a christmas tree and not all over the branchy place.
Your first challenge unless you find clones (medical?) is going to be sprouting the seeds. Theyre expensive so i suggest not messing up to many times. Id go with feminized seeds on your first grow to reduce the chance of....well doing all this for nothing and growing two males. Buy ten seeds. Thats five runs of two plants and at least one outta ten has to make it right?! Just dont drown them. Damp and wet are totally different.
Theres two common ways of sprouting seeds. The paper towl method. Damp paper towel, seeds, baggie, when they crack, plant em in some
seed starter mix (5bucks). It has low amounts of nutrients and is perfect for germinating in. Or just dampen the seed starting mix and pop a seed in there. Cover with plastic wrap and leave in the dark for 12-24 hrs and you should see signs of life, then immediately uncover and place under a low light lamp like a compact florecent pigs tail lookin light, or some floro tubes like t-5s or t-8s shop lights.
When they get thirsty respond accordingly. Dont water to much because its very easy to drown them by over watering. Classic newb mistake and they all do it. A sprout needs a lot less water than a foot high plant, and a three foot plant needs wy more than the one. A good way to regulate how much you water is your container size. If you put a small plant in a 10gallon container chances are that the pot will stay wet, because the little plant cant drink enough to empty it. Small plant in a small container. Wet it all and it will still dry out at the same speed as a huge plant in a huge container. Wet dry grows weed, not wet, wet, wet drowned. So you probably want to sprout in a half Gallon container and when the top of the plant is larger than the container transplant to a five gallon container. "More roots, more fruits"
Choosing what to grow in is the next step. Organic soil has nutrients in it already. You can plant in it and it will not need additional feed for about a month and even then you probably wont need full strength doses of fertilizer. Its cheaper to run to run this way than in a soilless growing medium like promix, or coco coir. These soilless mixes have no dirt in them, theyre made of fake dirt with little to no nutrients in them so you have to supply them all to the plant. They produce better if you know what your doing but fail faster as well if you dont. Hydro is easy but complicated at the same time and requires more building off the bat, and money spent investing into your set up. Dirts fast, cheap, and easy. Id do dirt, organic, fox farm ocean forest soil. You only need to fertilize in flower and small doses in veg if any. Plant seed and watch it grow. How much easier do you want it? Its pretty much on no think auto pilot.
So now your plants growing, id wait to see a foot and a halfish or two depending what the end height is supposed to be via the seed supply company. They should tell you how tall they get. The plants stretch when flowering is triggered and they can double or triple in size. So be prepared for that. Riu will tell you if your unsure. Theres also ways to train the plant to stay short, these"weeds" will grow around anything. Two plants in that sized tent would probably be good with room for a third pot in there and you could crack a seed like every two months or 2.5 id say and have a good supply of meds.
A plant will veg forever almost if you let it. Under 24 hrs down to 18/6 it will not show signs of sex and stay in the vegging state. Once the photo period is decreased the plant will start to stretch to try and outgrow its sisters and find pollen. It will produce female flowers (buds) hopeing to become impregnated and seed out. We dont want that to obtain a sinsemilla crop. Vegging can be done from zero days (short plants when finnished) or however long it takes to grow them to 8' tall (probably 6 months) and theyll stretch to 10 or so feet. Younger plants have more potential to stretch than older plants. Older plants are old and young ones are wild and crazy.
From the date you change the plants light cycle to flower (12/12) it will always take around 70-100 days for the flowers to ripen. No matter how old the plant when its flipped. The flowers produce resin in the form of tricombs (read up on these) and they are a good thing to watch to tell you when the plant is ripe as they change color. The female parts on the plant called pistils also change color but can play tricks on you sometimes so the tricombs are more accurate.
When the plant is ripe cut it down and hang it somewhere to dry. Theres many threads to read on this but theyll all tell you to leave it in a dark, breezy spot and wait. A little added humidity can add time to drying which is good. You want the green plant matter to break down slowly and produce aromas and flavors at this point. A quick dry will leave it flavorless.
After thats done throw it in a jar for a couple of weeks while burping it to prevent mold (the devil) and then smoke it bro. Have fun, stay safe, and dont tell your friends. You can be cool, or you can be rich. One way keeps you in weed, one way leads to jail or getting robbed.
On that note im going to get high on some killer cherry pie. Have fun kid, youll love it.
