This thread is intended as advice for PERSONAL growers.
A few months ago, I read some advice that might be helpful to some of you.
We all take great care to protect our grows from detection by the cops. This involves a lot of forethought and planning. And rightly so. And it's worth it.
But it would also be advantageous for us to prepare as much as reasonably possible to limit the damage should we get busted.
Getting busted is bad. But we can preemptively do things to limit the damage, such as:
1. Knowing how to keep your mouth shut. Always use the 5th amendment and refuse to be a witness against yourself. Don't lie. Don't tell the truth. Don't say anything except "I want a lawyer". Because the FIRST thing your lawyer will ask you is "what have you told the police?". And the lawyer's job will be much easier if you can honestly say "nothing".
You must realize here that the cops will try to get you to say anything that gives them an advantage. Did you know that cops are allowed by law to lie to you during interrogation? They are also allowed by law to fabricate evidence to try and coerce you into admitting to something that will surely hang you. Don't believe anything they say. And say nothing to them.
2. Which lawyer would you call? I'd call Saul Goodman if he was real (lawyer on Breaking Bad). But since he's not real, I've went to the (minor) inconvenience of discretely identifying a local lawyer who is very experienced and skilled in providing defense for MJ violations. And I've memorized his phone number.
3. Limit the possibility of being charged with dealing or trafficking, by getting rid of two things in your house that the cops would surely use to try and prove you're a trafficker: food scales and plastic baggies. As petty as it may seem, the cops will invade your kitchen looking for these two items, and if they find them, you'll see them again in the court room as exhibits A and B. I'm not BS'ing here. I know this may seem hard to believe, but it's true.
4. Make your grow op look "small time". 30-site cloners and SOG grows (high number of plants) make you look more "big time" than "small time". Keep it as simple as possible. I know it's cool to think about "harvesting a pound a month", but such a grow op could never be defended in court as a "small, personal grow".
This is meant as friendly advice. I hope you all take it as such.
