.........snip.........Why do u refuse to use peatbased mixes? is there a reason? were u getting lockouts while using peatbased like the other guy?
Yes Peat is like Petroleum it's not a renewable resource and I feel badly using it. If I have to I will but I think I can find a replacement that is full coir.

Correction, it's Black Gold moisture control, not black magic duh! Lol
Anyways, the stuff is pretty good. And like I had said, I usually like it one or the other(peat based OR coco/perlite blend).
We started little ones in promix hp, then up-potted our way into 7gals with the BM moisture control. They are rockin.

I'm still mainly using Sanctuary brand Big City Hydro mix for most my grows. I love how you don't need to break up any coco. Ready rite out the bag, just like the BM moisture control is. Breaking up bails of promix HP or sunshine mix blows. Easy Peasy, thats what it's all about for me these days:-)
Yes I too hate breaking the bales apart. I use Cannabis for it's pain control properties so it is about growing with as little pain as possible. I am also limited to what I can lift and I'm not very strong. I am a fairly small girl. So growing anything larger than about a 6' plant in a 5 gallon pot is my limit and I usually run 2 gallon pots and shoot for 4-5 foot plants max (don't always hit that mark however LOL), right now I'm struggling with finishing a 7-8.5 foot Jack Herer who is very cantankerous LOL. Although I have her marked for death today LOL.

I have a bale of Coco that I mixed about 50/50 with large Perlite and I'm going to pot up into that and test it. But like you I do not enjoy mixing. So I was looking at Canna's Coco literature and now I'll take a look at Big City Hydro Mix. I wonder about mixing in some of my old Hydroton to coir, then I remember how much I hate mixing LOL! My local store is happy to order in anything I decide on so I'll call them and get a bad of Big City Hydro Mix on order, thanks for the support.

Haven't tried it, but I bet it also would not need breaking apart, or the need to wear a mask, cutting it with perlite either. It's mixed with pumice rite? Nice!
Which btw, i believe I might have probably shaved years off my life from all the perlite dust I've inhaled over the years. I never ever wore a mask(retarded), and
one day it fucked me up good. I felt like my asthma was starting up,(usually only get it during allergy time) took to many hits off the inhaler, and practically OD'd off the shit. Thought I was gonna die. I hate perlite. I call it "The white lung"

You know, when coco first hit the scene, I was all over it for believe it or not, what you said. It's renewable, compared to peat. And I also felt like a dick throwing my rockwool in the landfill(I grew many different ways back then), even though its just spun rock:-D
Sanctuary, the maker of the bigcityhydromix is in Tracy or Modesto? Somewhere in between. I would think they have blown up down south also, they have gotten pretty big up north. Your local shop should be able to order it, but they might have to get a pallet, and might not want to.
If you can't get it, try what Chuck showed. I'm sure it also would be broken up good, being a mix and all. Their brick coco is pretty good, so I imagine their expanded being good also:-)

Yup that's why I changed out of Rockwool!! LOL you and I think eerily alike, you should be afraid, very afraid hahahaaaaaaaaaa!

Although I must admit I wear a full respirator. My lungs are fully functional but my heart not so much so I try to go easy on it.....

Instead of going full retard, I go full respirator whenever need be nowadays;-)
It's amazing how stupid you can be when younger.

This should be cool to see what sort of conclusions you come to..
I have found that I like the air and water retention of Coco way more than #4.. more forgiving with the watering sched..

I have used ss#4 for a few years now and always done really well. Last batch I had some issues in veg. This run I watched my run off ppms very close when I transplanted and with some great white and quarter strength cal mag in 0 ppm ro water.. Runoff of sunshine4 was 1100+ I thought this was ridiculous. Also I find they drink more often in a coco/perlite mix than they do in ss4. So I prefer to veg in coco. I am doing a mix of ss4 and coco/perlite , side by side with straight ss4 plants. I get over 2ps per light almost everytime .. And never have quality issues with sunshine. But the inconsistency of it and salt buildups, has me hoping that mixing it with coco will get the same yield and quality with less trouble.

Thanks! I have no wish to use Peat. When I initially looked into using this the bags only listed Coco Coir. So now I will be changing mixes. I really appreciate your pointing this out with the reference. Really pisses me off because my mentor told me to use Sunshine #4 (not the advanced) and I refused because it had Peat, sigh.

I'd give you some rep if the board still had it LOL.
Annie
Don’t do that. I love advanced 4
