Can cold damage seeds?

I'm ordering my seeds by mail. Thought if the cold weather can damage them. Right now, after a week of germinating, I have a sprout rate of 3/8 with a fourth seed slowly growing out of the rockwool. Could it be they have been too frozen in the mail?

I have heard of people storing seeds in the refrigerator for long periods of time. so the cold shouldn't affect them.

No not a chance .....in such a short space of time......Rockwools not the best to germ a seed In though..

If you think about it, wild marijuana flowers in the fall and the seeds are dispersed however but could potentially be in freezing temps throughout the winter time. And they would pop in the spring and grow through the summer season. Just a theory.

It actually helps it store better. All the seed vaults in the world are kept super cold.

I keep beans in the freezer.. Only thing you would hope to avoid is the freeze thaw freeze thaw type deal..

Svalbard Global Seed Vault
uses refrigeration units that cool the seeds to the internationally recommended standard of −18 °C (−0.4 °F). u should be good. heat degrades seeds. cold makes them dormant.

only thing i didnt like about rockwool is the fight against mold on plastic covers....

If it's all you have then fine but imo a much better success rate is to b had by using jiffys or peat pellets or just plain old soil as mentioned in the previous post Rockwool is prone to mould because of its moisture retention and has to b phed before use(and soaked overnight something to do with the glue that holds it together)

just use a paper towel,moisten a paper towel fold it stick seeds in top of towel,drop bottom of towel in cup,put ph water in bottom of cup,paper towel works as wick keeping paper towel MOIST,at top through wicking action of paper towel,place lid back over cup or jar,place jar on something warm,heating pad ,light bulb fixture,around 90 degree preferably,(will help throw more females),wait for tails to pop ,then insert the tales down into the whatever you are growing in,(rockwool holds to much moisture is why some don't like to use It to start seeds in)
if seeds are good they will crack and be running in 24 to 36 hours.
cold is good for seeds,the seed thinks its winter,when it with warm weather the seed tells itself time to pop and run now if I want to live,it is actually much better to take the seeds from cool to warm ,its the way god made them.
