that means in order to get 400 grams per meter squared, you'd need to pull 14 and 1/4 oz's of bud, which works out to be about 400 grams of bud..
you could pull those numbers if you get some exp. under your belt, but to expect to pull one gram per watt if you have a 400 watt hps, that's some lofty dreams for a new comer imo..

Well im ordering a 400 watt hps n mh light and some nutes what if i use that 400 watts plus 100 watts of cfls

Read and watch videos i did as i saved to get what i wanted to start up i wanted one 600 bulb one dwc plant one pound got 10.5 oz took 8 months of trying

You can use the 400 watt to learn on. Later on you will realize it isn't enough for what you want in flower. Then it'll just be your veg light once a mh is in it.

I've grow with a 400w hps mh setup for the last 2 years I do 4 plants at a time and pull about 10 to 12 oz per grow

U wanna pick a high yielding strain grow in 3 gal pots don't do dwc
Use potting mix with 0 nuts in it and mix that with perlite 50/50
Germ seeds paper towel once sprout put directly in 3 gal pot.. I norm put in a jiffy pellet then jiffy into pot then straight under 400w mh veg top and lst them for a good month then flipp to 12/12 after about 1 week of 12/12 I start with the hps
I use Dutch master gold range nuts 2 part and never had prob start nut at about 2 weeks into veg

Awesome dude I did all that I'm about to get a bigger pot n just ordered a 400 watt hps n mh.. which one is for veg n which one is for flower I forget... N i just bought nutes n my strain is 100% afghan kush

metal halide is for veg, high pressure sodium for flowering..
big pots, big veg, bigger yields ime..

oh yeah, i'd grow more than one plant as well, might be able to squeeze about 4 under a 400 watter..

4 oz? What if i got 1 plant under 400 watts of hps during veg n 400 watts hps during flower plus 100 watts of cfls during both? So that's 500 watts during veg and flower and i topped twice I'm gonna top again and i been lst for about a week so far and I'm gonna lollipop and my nutes will b here in two days

Get rid off the cfl won't make fck all difference instead concentrate on lst them to create more bud sites during veg
The start 
2 weeks in
4 weeks flip time topped and spread out to side of pots
About 2 weeks into flower

Yeah i kno i everyone told me the soil is getting really dry now i heard it's better to under water the over water
