My MH bulb burnt out today :(

Time came for my lights to kick on and luckily I was home. I heard a humming sound coming from my tent so I opened it up. The light was flickering then died. I unplugged it then replugged it, and same humming then flickering.

Fearing the worst, I thought my ballast (Apollo) bit the dust. Luckily I had a HPS bulb so I tested that out. It started up like a charm.

My question is, is a HPS gonna cause chaos while in veg? The plants just entered their second week. Also, how can I strengthen their stems? I have a fan blowing on them, I just feel it isn't happening quick enough.

Thanks for reading.

I know folks who use HPS for veg and flower, so as long as you don't change your light schedule, things should be okay.

Personally, I eventually use super cropping to help in strengthening, but not until they have at least 7 nodes. Until that point, the fan is your best bet. IMHO anyway.

I need to learn all the advanced techniques you guys use. This is my first grow so when the time comes, I'll be watching videos about how to do all of them/which method is most effective/etc...

Thanks for the reply

Just focus on keepin em happy, don't worry about any supercropping, topping ect on your first grow.

The easiest thing you could do is some LST. Tie em down if they get too lanky or tall.

Just worry about keepin em alive is all I'm sayin

I made the mistake of goin overboard with hst my first time and ended up doing more harm, not knowing why I was doing it, just thought it was the thing to do

But yeah good luck homie

Take a lot of what you see in vids with a grain of salt, better to get a few books on growing and use the info they give you.

Best bet is hands on experience. Don't get into the train of thought that marijuana needs very specific requirements, it doesn't, but you can tweak what it does need to optimize results. Many of those grow book are crap, If your going to read anything get books about basic plant biology and growing, then get the marijuana specific books for the specific tips and pointers. For my first couple of years as i was getting into growing on a more serious level i would pop a few bag seeds to experiment on rather than messing with my good genetics. Having a plant to mess with and not relying on that plant for meds allows you to do things you wouldn't normally do. Plants in 6" pots don't take up enough space to worry about. I tried Fim, topping, suppercropping, etc on those plants and figured out what results i liked and what worked in my situation.

Sorry, I wasn't specific. Gardening books and the older stuff is usually better, before all the chem gimmicks that are on the market now.
