If you want to get bigger and faster growth ---the number one thing you need to do is loosing up that soil----I don't care if your using the high-end FOXFARM OCEAN FORREST or any of the other top soils---You still need to make it looser----why do you think so many growers choose hydro or drip or drain/fill----or flood or anything other than soil?????----It's because they get faster results----why?????------because the roots have the least resistance in those types of set-ups----I hear it all the time from growers--"I use ocean Forrest just the way it is and it works great for me.."--that's great but I make make it way better and soo can you!!!-----------If you don't believe me try it in a 16 oz cups---Take one plant in just your normal soil(no adds) then take the same soil and use it in a mix----1part soil----1part perlite-----1part vermiculite---I know some of you are saying:----Well the vermiculite provides nutes so of course the plant will do better---If this is the case don't use the verm just go---1part soil to 1 part perlite----The whole point here folks is you want light loamy soil that roots can thrive in without having to expel so much energy penetrating the soil. Loosing up your soil as much as you can and watch your plants explode with growth...

ahhh. this just helps confirm it. i thought loose soil helped grow faster, bigger i had a plant not go so well it stunted compared to its sister clones the only difference was i ran out of perlite before i finished planting.

Yes, but I am very limited where I live. If it's not at Lowe's, Walmart/Kmart (actually, I hate going into our local Kmart) or the garden center, I have to order online. Mostly I'm curious as to what it's composed of, I like how it mixes with the soil a whole lot better than perlite now that I'm using it.

Never heard of perlite having nutes in it-----Verm has nitrogen and micros--It's a good add to soil in veg and even small amounts in bloom kind of a organic natural time release nitrogen source----Sorry you have such a hard time getting good perlite----If you pay for the shipping and cost of it--I will pick up the FF Big Chunk perlite and send it to you stealth-----It really is a great product....PM me if you need...

Unless im retarded stoned right now I think the reason people put perlite in there soil, and furthermore grow hydroponically in rockwool and aeroponically in nothing is because of the increased exposure to oxygen. Roots process oxygen and its this increased exposure that translates into the rapid growth assosiated with these growing methods.

I grow in Fox Farms and I suggest that most people should not add additional perlite. There is already perlite in the mix, more then enough, I feel like a novice grower can easily grow overboard, ending with a nearly agro-ponic medium like light warrior and thus prone to nutrient deficieny.

One of the advantages to Ocean Forest is how little you have to fertilize when growing buds in a container. I think new growers should consider growing in this straight soil or a local organic equivalent. It drains great, retains moisture, remains light, and feeds forever. Im very satisfied, sorry I sound like a brand whore.

These were only hit 3 times with a organic nute tea during flowering. Vegged for a month and flowered 73 days in FF ocean forest.

I see no nitrogen or nitrogenous compounds in the chemical formula of vermiculite.
This is vermiculite: (Mg,Ca,K,Fe[SIZE=-1]11[/SIZE])[SIZE=-2]3[/SIZE] (Si,AL,Fe[SIZE=-1]111[/SIZE])[SIZE=-3]4[/SIZE]O[SIZE=-3]10[/SIZE](OH)[SIZE=-2]2[/SIZE]O4H[SIZE=-2]2[/SIZE]O; or, also known as hydrated laminar magnesium-aluminum-ironsilicate.

It is a mined mineral, and it got its name because when heat is applied it has a very unique property of exfoliating into odd, worm-like shapes (vermiculite is derived from the Latin, ''vermiculare', to breed worms). Now, if you noticed the "hydrated" bit of its name, then you may have an idea as to how it gets into those worm-like shapes when heated. It is because water trapped between the layers expands, et voila, mineral worms.

The perlite was specifically Miracle Gro, pretty much all that's available here, and they add their own fertilizers.

dont use vermiculite unless you want cancer, bad advice. Vermiculite has asbestos in it Grow Big And Good but dont risk your health. Just mix soil with 30-40% perlite. NO VERMICULITE
