Technically, "germinate" can be contorted to extreme ambiguity... when they crack/ send root out.... when you put them in an "incubator" (term is used loosely), or even when they actually begin to grow....

To me, it is:

the act/attempt to make a seed sprout

I don't want to be a dick, so don't get snappy or argue it won't get you anywhere
the rule is clear:

Start a maximum of 5 seeds total, keep only 1 female plant for entry once sex has shown for all (5).
You were honest and said you started 6, honesty will get you far in life

Out of the 6 I germ'd 4 looked good and healthy so I went with them....

And after re-reading your statement multiple times, I see that my definition of "GERMINATE" is nearly exactly the same as yours....

This competition is not a joking or laughing matter, it serious, but fun, and should be taken that way... There's no re-do's or mulligans or practice shots. I'm sorry that I have to make an example out of you.

Crazybear, It actually states in the rules that only five seeds are to be germed for this competition. Not as many as you want or few extras and you pick only 5. The reason for this is someone could pop 50, 100, etc seeds and pick whatever five best that they want. That's why everyone is saying you broke the rules already. It doesn't matter if you only had 4 of the 6 viable, its simple the fact that you did not follow one of the main rules, or maybe that you took it out of context or didn't understand what was said completely. That is simple why some are being so harsh. I'm not slamming you but that is why the rules are laid out as plain as possible before the competition starts.

With that being said I am fine with him staying in or whatever is decided.

With a side note, Everyone if not sure or hell even if you are sure please re-read the rules laid out. I'd hate to see anyone disqualified but with that said and as many people that are participating in this comp compared to previous i would say any further severe mishaps/ or disregard for rules should be DQ'D or at the very least voted on.

At this point everyone should know what the rules or guidelines are. Especially considering they were reposted on the first page of this thread. IF you do not then reread them, print them out and put them in your grow area or whatever it is you have to do to remind yourselves what the rules/guidelines are.If you are unsure of something I would highly recommend asking for clarification before proceeding or starting if you already have not. It would really suck to be DQ'd but again with as many competitors as there are, this comp growing in popularity, its a free competition to participate in for great prizes that showcases growers skills, I would say that it should be taken seriously. Even if you are just here for the experience and fun, which it should be. Therefore at least in my honest opinion there should be no more leeway/lienance. Of course that will be completely upto the person running the competition.

The sad thing is, you HAD plenty of time to ; read the rules, buy seeds, buy cups, re read the rules, ask frozen chozen for anything that is not crystal clear to you and then re read the fuckin rules again. We all have time to do this so let this be a lesson to me and anyone else who decides to not re-read the rules and enter the tournament like a real contender.

So i wont be germinating for another week or two.. I am in the middle of building a new grow cab out of nice red oak. I am currently in the process of sealing it with a natural danish oil, that will also make it look great. I am doing this to make it basically like a stealth cabinet/stand so that its not noticeable. I am also ordering a new camera for nice picture shots etc.

Still trying to pick what to germinate as well. I may pick for one or two of the seeds I pop from the batch of seeds I made two comps ago. either the JTR x Amnesia or JTR x Jillybean

Look I did read the rules and was under the impression that it was more about 5 plants vs. seeds to an extent that having 5 viable seeds that can be planted to grow into wonderful marijuana plants was more important that just 5 seeds period no matter if they don't crack, all males, etc. I figured nobody would give a shit If I tried to germ 6 seeds in case some of the bag seed I had was bad. Turns out I probably should've asked for permission instead of forgiveness in this case. Alright lesson learned.

The problem with that argument is that if all 6 germ and you pick the healthiest 5. I honestly don't have a problem if someone popped 100 seeds just to make sure they had 5 to sex but it still gives the person doing it an edge that isn't fair to the other contestants. My post doesn't go just out to you but to everyone even myself.

For those struggling with the cup.

If people don't know what a 16 oz party cup is they shouldn't be in this competition to begin with. The name is party cup competition lol.

Looks like decision was already made. Sorry to see you out so early crazybear. I'd say to not let this get to you or discourage you from future comps. I encourage you to follow along as if you were still in it with what you have just for the fun of it and the experience. the experience would be helpful for the future comps if you so choose to enter into them. It can be fun to just follow along, especially since you stated your a new grower. There will be lots good information during the comp. better luck next time and hope to see you back.

Yeah yeah, lol I can be a seed junky sometimes, if I see good strains sometimes I honestly can't help but to pick them up. Even if I know I already have enough. You could call it a problem possibly lol.

I haven't run exotics yet, but I took a long time on decided what to pick.. I've seen some absolutely amazing grows from people growing their seeds. And the newer stuff I've seen them put out lately to include what you mentioned I do wanna eventually pick up and try. Seems like they put a lot of thought and effort into what they put out and I haven't seen any bad reviews. Hell I may just pop one of each just to give a preliminary and see how they turn out!

I'm the same way with seeds. I picked up 4 packs from the cup last year. Plus got 5 packs of freebies. Then at Chalice I pickled up 2 packs and got 2 packs of freebies. Plus the 2 10 packs of cbd testers that I got directly from sub. Then all the packs I'm testing for @Mohican . I plan on picking up at least 3 packs at the cup next weekend. Maybe 4 packs if I have enough loot. I'm going to search like crazy for a gg#4 clone at the cup too.

that darkside looks like an awesome strain for making ice wax.

I have a question. As long as I list the medium used in each cup, can the seedlings be in different mediums? I don't have a ton of solo cup growing experience so if it's allowed it makes sense for me to try a couple different approaches with the 5 seeds (i.e. 2 hempy, 2 soil, 1 half'n'half, or something along those lines) and pick the one that's working best by the time they sex, but I just want to make sure that's kosher.

I will be firing up about middle of February, being not many Aussie's it seems in the competition, I have brought this subject up with the Local Hydro shop that I pretty much stick my beak into every weekend just to shoot the shit. They were excited about it and have offered me anything I need, their comment was "We will give you anything you need, just to show the Yanks how the Aussies fair up to them"...HAHAHAHA. I pissed myself and told them don't get too cocky yet, this is my first time entering the competition and from what I have seen there are some well seasoned contestants. Anyway, I have the seed, the cup (which I see people already haviing an issue with, and when I bought my cups they didn't say what size they were, I had to buy them and come home with a measuring jug and measure 16oz and pour it into the cup and see for myself, which they are 16oz. so got lucky there). They are providing me some of their Organic Hydroponic Nutrients that they have made up, which I will disclose on first entry post, and they mentioned about providing me a light, being mine are all tied up into my current grows.
