Aggravating as hell, yet somehow satisfying.

So at work, Wednesdays are when our truck comes in. It's a day where we need a full crew to unload, stock, and back stock all the new merchandise. On average it takes about 10 people on an 8 hour shift to complete (or at least get the bulk of it depending on truck size).

Anyway I had to take last Wednesday off due to a dentist appointment, and I had Thursday off as well.

I come in today to open and do replenishment, and there was still A LOT of merchandise from the truck that still needed to be put away.

So, I blow through replen, and start sorting out the freight. Managed to make a nice sized dent. Before it was time to clock out, and sort what I couldn't run between backstock and floor stock.

Point of all this is... that it's aggravating that I can't take a day off without worrying about business getting taken care of around the store. Being down one guy is no excuse to fall that far behind.

However, it does make me feel valuable to know that I'm needed to get shit done around there.

Oh, and for the record I'm only an ast. pricing manager. I don't have any authority over anyone else. So it's not a matter of the "cat's away".

Sounds like you care more than the rest of them. Fuck it, it's good job security to be that valuable. Kind of sounds like what happens when I take too many days from my grow, shit just piles up and up. So I'm always asking myself do I want to do a manageable amount each day, or do I want to take a couple days off and have to do an unbelievable amount afterward. Damned if you do, damned if you don't...

haha they tried to promote me to full time management in my first few weeks. I couldn't do it because at the time I had a lot of other stuff on my plate, and working full time became a bit too much to handle... So they promoted me to the Assistant Pricing Manager's position... which came with the job that I was already doing (they trained me for the full time position before I realised I couldn't take it)
plus a $0.25 raise, which is nice.

Not going to give them an ultimatum though. Not my style.

A good crew is worth their weight in gold. I should know, and my best advice is do not take them for granted.

My wife was on maternity leave after our last child.

She told work that she might not be back.

One day her work called and said the needed her to come back.

Her response "sounds like I'm getting a raise."
That's one smart girl you got there- you better keep her around. I'd hate to see what her alimony check would look like.
